Mrs. Bernice Brooks Kennedy
Mrs. Bernice Brooks Kenn 3y, 408 North West 24Vi
St., died Nov. 29 at home.
She was a faithful membei of Friendship Baptist
Church where she served as President of the Missionary Dept.,
Sunday School Teacher, member of the Pastor's
Aid, the Effort Club, Director of the Baptist Training

Union and a retired employee of R.J. Reynolds Industries.
Surviving are a son, Johnny H. Kennedy Jr; a
daughter, Mrs. Elois K. Duncan, both of this city; two
brothers, Curtis H. Brooks of Mocksville, N.C., and Roy
H. Brooks of Detroit, Mich; six grandchildren, two
brothers-in-law; two sisters-in-law; a devoted friend,
James Ziglar of the city and other relatives.
Faneral services were held Dec. 3 at 1 p.m. at Friendship
Baptist Church with the Rev. S.E. Tyndall officiating
and interment followed. in the Evergreen
Cemetery.
Forsyth Funeral Directors took charge of services.
Mrs. Mattie Samuels
Mrs. Mattie Samuels, 98 years old, of 3016 Myra
Street, were held on Nov. 30 at 4 p.m. in Mt. Olive Baptist
Church with the Rev. Charles E. Gray offficiating.
The remains did repose in the funeral home until 3
p.m. Wednesday at which time it was placed in state in
the church until the funeraLhour.
The family did assemble and leave from the home of
grandaughter, Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Hall at 3:30 p.m.
enroute to the church for the funeral. ?1?
Interment was in the Evergreen Cemetery.

Mr. Jonny Sander Duckett

ivir. jonny Sander Duckett, of 2520 Reynolds Park
Road, died Nov. 28 at his residence.
He was a native of Newberry, S.C., the son of the late
Henry and Maybell Sander Duckett, a member of the Second
Calvary Baptist Church, the Usher Board, Sunday
School Class No. One, Chairman Emeritus of the Trustee
Board, a veteran of World War II, a retired employee of
the R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co., and an organizer of the
former Deep Sea Fishing Club.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Beola R. Duckett of the
home; five sisters, Mrs. Ela Duckett of this city, Mrs.
Viola Simpson, Mrs. Nancy Suber, Miss Helen Duckett,
all of Pittsburg, Pa., and Miss Adeli Duckett of
Newberry; six brothers and sisters-in-law, Raymond and
Lottie Duckett, Foster and Louise Duckett, James and _
Clara Duckett, Herbert and Betty Duckett, Roosevelt
Duckett, all of this city, and Luther and Rosan Duckett
qf Washington, D.Cw apd other relatives..
Funeral services were conducted Dec. 1 at 12 noon at
the Second Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. D.S.
Stowe officiating.
Interment followed in the Piedmont Memorial
Gardens.

Apt. 9J> died Nov. 30 at the Forsyth Memorial Hospital.
She was a native of this city, a retired employee of the
Reynolds Health Center, a member of the Mt. Zion Baptist

Surviving are two sisters, Miss Barbara Benson of this
city and Mrs. Barbara Truesdale of Detroit, Mich; two
nephews, Renard Benson and Wayne Benson, both of
this city; an aunt, Mrs. Maggie Rucker; four cousins,
Robert, Lawrence, Lee Council Grier and Mrs. Veritus
Jones, all of this city; three devoted friends, Mrs.
Areatha Broadway, Mrs. Willie Anderson, both of this
city and Mrs. Bessie Philson of Rural Hall, N.C., and
other relatives.
Funeral services were conducted Dec. 3 at 1 p.m. at the
Mt. Zion Baptist Church with the Rev. Kelly O.P. Goodwin
officiating.
Interment followed in the Evergreen Cemetery.

Mrs. Deioris DeReef Galbreith, of 805 Rich Avenue/
died Nov. 30 at the Forsyth Memorial Hospital.
She was a native of this city, the daughter of the late
Frank DeReef and Olivia Penn DeReef, a member of the
Goler Metropolitan AME Zion Church, a former
member of the Church Choir, the Women's Home and
Foreign Missionary and a member of the Alumni Chapter
of the N.C. Central University.
Surviving arc a son, Mark Galbreith; her mother, Mrs.
Olivia Penn DeReef, both of the home, and other
relatives.
Funeral services were conducted Dec. 5 at 4 p.m. at the
Goler Metropolitan AME Church with the Rev. Jerry A.
Quick officiating.
Interment followed in the Evergreen Cemetery.

Mrs. Norma D. Gaskins
Mrs. Norma D. Gaskins, of 305 Abattoir St., died Dec. {
4 at the N.C. Baptist Hospital.
She was a native of this city, formerly employed as a
nurse at the N.C. Baptist Hospital and a member of the
United Bibleway Church on Dixie Broadway.
Surviving are two daughters, Miss Denny Donovant
and Miss Kristena Gaskins; two brothers, Vincent Donovant
and Walter Donovant of Atlanta, Ga., and other
relatives.
