If he had not, Winston-Salem State's football team might have faced an embarrassing loss to a> struggling Division I-AA school in Howard. MI don't like them like that," Wallace said of the ninth-ranked Rams' 12-7 win over the Bison. The Rams played well in some areas. For example, they totaled 358 yards. Fullback Leroy Wonsley led the way with 102 yards on 21 carries. But most of that yardage was futile. Indeed, WSSU had an 18-play, third-quarter drive that 1 consumed nine minutes and 20 seconds, yet resulted in no points. 1 4 4We did every contfctvaWe*44' thing wrong in the kicking game," said Coach Bill Hayes, < whose team travels to Fayetteville ' State Saturday. "Marky Wallace is one of the best athletes around," Hayes said. "1 think he should make ailAmerican this year. He's been playing the way he did tonight for the last two years." Wallace, a preseason all-CIAA pick, had six solo hits, four assists and an interception in the win over the Bison. That earned him Defensive Back of the Week honors ih the CIAA. He and fellow inside linebacker Angelo Spruill spearheaded a WSSU defense that limited Howard to 108 yards rushing and 42 yards passing. Spruill had nine solos and seven assists. Wallace's interception set up the Rams' first touchdown. He appeared to have returned it for his second touchdown of the season, but he stepped out of bounds on the HU 19-yard line. After three Wonsley runs, Dana Walker went the last six yards on an option right.
