Slater alumn
The ^-Slater Chapter of the
Winston-Salem State University
Alumni Association held its last
meeting of 1985 on Saturday,
Dec. 14, at the home of Clara
Nesby.
The meeting opened with
Christmas carols and an invocation
by Thurmond Ford. Chapter
President Janie Thomas presided
over me meeting; members also
enjoyed a Christmas lunch.

held to give the members an opportunity

dance music.

Stephens is active is several
organizations, including the A&T
Alumni Club in Detroit, the
NAACP and the Metropolitan
Schoolmen's Club.
Michigan's sub-zero
, temperatures and high crime
rates in the schools have promoted
Stephens to consider moving
back to his "native WinstonSalem.
He says he hopes to return
within a year on a * 'permanent
basis."
Stephens spends much of his
spare time working with student
athletes after school hours. A
dedicated teacher, he says, "I
believe every young person
should stay in school. Education
is the key to success. ..."

of Odessa Perry.
Mrs. Perry and Teretha
Millner hosted the affair and
opened the meeting with a
prayef. The meeting agenda inprogram
plans for 1986,
and all the current officers were
re-installed.
