Stafford of North Davidson High School has cap tured the top honors in the an* nual Talent Hunt sponsored by the local chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. Stafford took first place in the musical competition held at Winston-Salem State University on Sunday, March 9. He will represent the local Omegas in district competition later this spring in Greenville, S.C. At that competition, he will compete for recion at the natinnai mmrv?ri --?? tion in Washington. Last year, Stafford tied for the top honors at the district level. Stafford's winning performance was Gershwin's "Prelude Area Weddii Alston-Thompson Wilma Denise Alston and Alonzo Thompson were married Saturday, March 22, in a 3 p.m. ceremony at Davis Chapel at North Carolina Baptist Hospital. The bride is the daughter of Edward and Virginia Ruth Alston of Pittsboro. The groom is the son of James and Lenzia Thompson of Clayton. The Rev, James Huey Payne officiated. The bride was given in marriage by her father. Serving as maid of honor was Terri Alston of Wt hington. Grant, a well-known black playwright, will visit Winston-Salem next month to attend the opening night here of her hit musical, "Don't Bother Me, I Can't Cope." The play will be presented April 11-13 by the North Carolina Black Repertory Company at the Arts Council Theatre at 610 Coliseum Drive. The NCBRC first presented "cope ' in February. Due to popular demand, the company is returning the play to WinstonSalem for an encore performance. Its success earned her the coveted Obie, Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle awards for best lyrics and for her acclaimed performance in the play. Her second hit musical, "Your Arms Too Short To Box With God," was a three-time Broadway hit. Ms. Grant recently completed the music and lyrics for a new musical based on the life and poetry of Phyllis Wheatley. A special reception to honor Ms. Grant will be held April 11 at 7 p.m. .at the Arts Council Theatre lobby. Tfie public is invited to attend the reception.
