She is instantly at ease with people and has an en thusiasm for life and her church work that, at its The congregation at Saints Home United Methodist Church, Mrs. Douthit *s home church since the early 1970s, recently h<?d a special program honoring Mrs. Douthit's spirit and her service "Sometimes things get rough, but you've got to laugh and keep going and not sit around and feel sorry for yourself.'' -- Lucille Douthit to the church and the community over the years. She says that there was never any doubt about which church she would join when she first moved to Winston-Salem after her parents* death. "I came to Saints Home in the 1970s,'* she recalls. "I knew that if 1 joined any Methodist church, it would be Saints Home. Since that time, . I've tried to work in all areas of the church." They called me Saturday and said they were going to escort me in on Sunday," she says, beaming. "They took us to the' front, but when 1 looked on the program and saw my name, I was just so, so surprised. 1 thought everything was lovely. I sat there and blabbed with people all afternoon." She still does mission work, which takes her to the Crisis Control Center the first Monday in each month, and she and her husband, Cardel, use donated funds to buy groceries for needy families. She says that she even used to sing in the church choir, but adds, smiling, MI don't have a good voice anymore."
