By ROBIN BARKSDALE
Chronicle Staff Writer
Talking with Lucille Douthit is fun.
She is instantly at ease with people and has an en

to the church and the community over the years.
She says that there was never any doubt about
which church she would join when she first moved
to Winston-Salem after her parents* death.
"I came to Saints Home in the 1970s,'* she
recalls. "I knew that if 1 joined any Methodist
church, it would be Saints Home. Since that time, .
I've tried to work in all areas of the church."
The church's tribute to her was a special moment
for Mrs. Douthit, and she says she loved every
minute of it, "

my name, I was just so, so surprised. 1 thought
everything was lovely. I sat there and blabbed with
people all afternoon."

ror Mrs. uoutmt, working in all areas of the
church has included positions at the local, district
and conference levels of the Methodist Church's
organization. ^
She has served on the Board of Discipleship of
the United Methodist Church at the conference
level, on the Commission on Religion and Race,
and as a public relations officer at the district level*
Locally, Mrs. Douthit's involvements have been
numerous. She still does mission work, which takes
her to the Crisis Control Center the first Monday in
each month, and she and her husband, Cardel, use
donated funds to buy groceries for needy families.
She says that she even used to sing in the church
choir, but adds, smiling, MI don't have a good voice
anymore."
