WSSU beat Elizabeth City State 37-16 and Virginia State 33-18. The Rams lost to Norfolk State 33-18. Henry Byrd, a freshman from Greensboro, also won all three of his matdhes. Byrd improved jo 15-5 overall. Danny Boden won two matches in the event at Livingstone. Boden, a freshman from Fayetteville, won the pair by pins and lost the third on a 3-0 decision. Boden upped his record to 14-7. James Mc Linn ah am, another freshman from Fayetteville, won two matches and had a draw to ' s? raise his record to 9-6. Larry Dulln, a sophomore from Winston-Salem Reynolds, registered two wins and a draw as well. Fair said that Livingstone came away as the most impressive team in the conference. "Norfolk State beat us 33-18 and Livingstone beat Norfolk 42-3," Fair said. "Livingstone is the team to beat." The Bison's win over the Colonials was a significant one for the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference, which has little respect nationally after losing in six straight NCAA Tournament appearances. Remembering Conrad: Former Winston-Salem State football Coach Thomas "Tank" Conrad died Sunday in Rochelle Park, N.J. Conrad, 76, had suffered a lengthy illness. Conrad was coach of the Rams from 1950-1969. His teams . posted a record of 74-83-8. His best squad was the 1962 Rams, who went 6-1-1. His 1955, 1959v and 1960 teams all went 6-2. After his retirement as head coach in 1969, Conrad worked as an assistant until 1976. However, his athletic achievement was not limited to coaching.
