activist Dick Gregory will speak
on South Africa at 8 p.m. on
Saturday, Jan. 18, in Aycock
Auditorium as part of the observance
of Martin Luther King
Jr.'s birthday at the University of
North Carolina at Greensboro.
Gregory's career as a comedian
began in 1960 in St. Louis. As the
1960s progressed, he joined the
civil rights movement. Mixing
politics with comedy, Gregory
became increasingly well-known
for one-liners such as, <4I spent
six months sitting at a lunch
counter in Atlanta, and when
they fina\Jy~took my order, they
didn't have what I wanted."

From June 12 through June 27,
80 North Carolinians will share
an experience as the first group of
Friendship Force ambassadors of
good will to visit Nairobi, Kenya,
in East Africa.
This exchange marks the first
i visit by the Atlanta-based international
exchange organization
to a country in Africa other than
Egypt. During the exchange, ambassadors
will have a unique opportunity
to develop friendships
and to learn more about the
lifestyles of the people of Africa.

Brown, who has been described
as the most respected black
television commentator in the
United States over the past 10
years, is the host of "Tony
Brown's Journal." The show h^s
appeared on NBC-TV for three
years and was on PBS as "Black
Journal."

Brown describes the show,
which is the longest-running
black affairs television show, as a
"documentary series about black
people for all people."
Dr. Ernest Wade, director of
minority affairs at WakerForest
and -coordinator of the event,
says a Martin Luther King Award
will be presented to "someone
who over the years has best exemplified
those ideals that were
so' much a part of Dr. King's
life."
