I sort of agreed with the guy on
that.
Moving to my seat at ringside,
the lights dimmed and the action
was about to begin.

A child a few rows in front of
me yelled, "Shut up momma,
they're starting."
"Now that's a real wrestling
family," I thought.
In the first match, it was "Outback
Jack" .from Humpty Doo,
Australia,-taking on Jose Estrada
from Brooklyn. ^
Outback, who looked like a
300 pound done of- Crocodile
Dundee, wore an explorer's garb
of tan pants, leather boots and a
leather vest. Pacing around the
ring, he flashed a big smile complete
with rather large spaces between
his teeth.
"Ello mates," he bellowed.

Although he is from Roxboro,
Thorpe spent much of his
childhood in the Twin City and
was a frequent visitor to the

developing his game.

AAU: Atlanta Bound
Twin City Relays Coach
Lemuel Johnson said a number
of his athletes will be heading to
Atlanta Georgia this weekend.
"We're going to an invitational
meet in Atlanta to tune up
for the regionals,^ Johnson explained.
* ?
"We like to let the kids run in
as many big competitions as we
can, but money is the problem. It
gets expensive to travel every
weekend," he said.
Johnson said a limited number
of athletes will make the Atlanta
trip this weekend.
Among them, are intermediate
boys Julius Reese, Derrick Speas
and Sonny Weaks. All three will
participate in the 100 and
200-meter dashes, while Reese
will test his skill in the 400 as
well.
'These three guys should do
pretty well down there I think,"
Johnson said. "We all know
what Julius is capable of, but
Derrick and Sonny are very good
runners too, <
"Derrick is just aTising eighthgrader
and he will really be an
outstanding athlete by the time he
reaches tne hign school level.11

also gave up nearly 50 pounds to
the much larger Australian.
Outback made quick work of
the Brooklyn native with a flying
bulldog. He managed to appease
the crowd by poking Estrada's
eyes like Moe does Curley on the
Three Stooges.

Scott Fletcher, the defending

in Atlanta. Johnson said Fletcher
will skip the 400-meter hurdles
this year to work on his speed and
endurance in relay competitions.
The Twin City Relay's senior
girls group will not the trip,
however. Johnson said a few of
the girls had to work or had other
commitments.
The Relays' senior girls 4x100
