* Area Deaths a > RUTH PELHAM ADAMS The Rev. Ruth Pelham Adams, 71, of 854 Camel Ave. died Saturday, June 27, in WinstonSalem. She was a native of Goldsboro and had lived in Winston-Salem for the past 60 years. She was a member of Macedonia True Vine Pentecostal Holiness Church and a graduate of United Christian College for United Holy Church of America in Goldsboro. Mrs. Adams was the founder of Pelham U-1-. ^>1 * .T.v.uv??i nuiy ^nurcn. sne was president of the missionary department of United Holy Church of America, South Carolina District, and one of the co-founders of Freedom Road Prison Ministry. She was also Volunteer of the Year for the Division of Prisons for the N.C. Department of Corrections in 1986. She is survived by her husband, William Adams of the home; four daughters, Willa Swynetta Martin of Ithaca, N.Y., Agatha Adams of Philadelphia, Carroll Harris of Winston-Salem and Sandra Alfreda Mcintosh of Los Angeles; two sons, William Shedrick Adams of Winston-Salem and Samuel G. Adams of] Rocky Mount; two sisters, Alice Watson of Philadelphia and Hannah McCoy of Irvinghoe, N.Y.; two brothers, Jimmy Pelham of New York and John Wesley of Philadelphia; 15 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one stepdaughter,. Mary Lou Gray of Statesville; two daughters-inlaw; four sons-in-law; many nieces, nephews and cousins; several other relatives and friends. Services were held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, July 1? at Macedonia TVPH Church, with Bishop . Arthur Davis officiating. Burial followed in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. Johnson's-HowardRobinson Home of Memory was in charge of the funeral arrangements. ABELL J. BROWN Abell J. Brown of 1230 E. 16th St. died Sunday, June 21, at Baptist Hospital. She is survived by three daughters, Vinnie Brown, Barbara B. Bullard, both of Winston-Salem, and Thelma Jessie of Rhode Island; one son, Ulysses Brown of Winston-Salem; three grandchildren; five greatgrandchildren; one sister, Cora Bradley of Columbia, S.C.; one brother,, Willie Jessie of Philadelphia; two sisters-in-law; several other relatives and friends * Services were held al 4 p.m. on Friday, June 26, at Ephesus Seventh-Day Adventist Church, with Elders H. Hall of 3011 Woodfin Place died Tuesday, June 23, at her home. She was a native of Forsyth County and had lived most of her life in Wijiston-Salem. Mrs. Hall was a Baptist and a homemaker. She is survived by her husband, James T. Hall Sr. of the home; two daughters, Teresa H. George and Deborah Wilkins of the home; two sons, James Hall Jr. of Winston-Salem and Tyrone Hall of Fort Washington, Md.; two daughters-in-law, Edna D. Hall of Winston-Salem and Melissa K. Hall; one son-in-law, Ernest Wilkins; four aunts, Georgia Ivey, Viola Springs, Sarah Johnson and Eula Johnson; seven grandchildren; several other relatives and friends. Services were held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 26, in the chapel of the Hooper Funeral Home, with the Rev. I.L. Anthony officiating. Burial followed in Evergreen Cemetery. Hooper Funeral Directors was in charge of the funeral arrangements. CLAUDE RAINEY ~ Claude Rainey of 2531 Manchester St. died Wednesday, June 24, at Myrtle Beach, S.C. He was a native of York County, S.C., and a retired employee of the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County school system. Rainey was a Methodist- He is survived bv three daughters, Bonnie Nash of Winston-Salem, Delores Monsanto of the Bronx, N.Y., and Viola Watson Of" Detroit; one son, Willie Nash of Winston-Salem; seven grandchildren; 10 greatgrandchildren; three brothers, Estel Rainey of High Point, John Rainey and Rudolph Rainey, both of York County, S.C.; several other relatives and friends. Services were held at noon on Saturday, June 27, in the chapel of the Hooper Funeral Home, with Elder Joseph Lowery officiating. Burial followed in Evergreen Cemetery. Mrs. Smith was a retired employee of the Chipman family and a Baptist. Gilmore's Funeral Home was in charge of the funeral arrangements. GALINE McCULLUM Galine McCullum, 34, of 2225 Glenn Ave. died Sunday, June 28, at Baptist Hospital. She was a native of Winston-Salem. ?r?Miss MeCtillum was a Baptist. She is survived by her mother, Dorothy McCullum of the home; i one sister, bertha McCullum of Winston-Salem; ' one brother, John McCullum Jr. of WinstonSalem; a foster brother, Clifton McCullum of Winston-Salem; one niece, Jeanell McCullum of Winston-Salem; four nephews; two aunts; three uncles; several other relatives and friends. Services were held at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, July 1, at Union Chapel Baptist Church, with the Rev. Konnie Robinson officiating. Burial followed in Evergreen Cemetery. Gilmore's Funeral Home was in charge of the funeral arrangements. I PEARLIE ADAMS Pearlie Adams, 69, of 1403 E. 23rd St. died Saturday, June 27, at her home. She was a native of Wadesboro. Mrs. Adams was a member of Mars Hill Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband, George Adams of the home; one daughter, Brenda Adams of Winston-Salem; one granddaughter; two sisters, Delia Crawford and Nezzie Myers, both of Winston-Salem; several other relatives and friends. Services were planned for 4 p.m. on Thursday, July 2, at Mars Hill Baptist Church, with the Rev. ?K.E. Lilly as the officiating minister. Burial was planned to follow in Evergreen Cemetery. Gilmore's Funeral Home was in charge of the funeral arrangements. SAMUEL SPEASE JR. ^ " Samuel Spease Jr. of Route 2, East Bend, died Thursday, June 25, in Yanceyville. He was a native of Yadkin County and a former resident of Winston-Salem. * Spease was a former employee of K&W Cafeteria. He is survived by 10 aunts, Gladys Brown of East Bend, with whom he lived, Eva Council, Jenny Smith, Georgia Franklin, Dorothy Moore, Sarah Spease, Sue Spease, Mary Porter, Patricia Davis and Nancy Rucker, all of Winston-Salem; two daughters, Debra Blackmon and Shelia Carter, both of Winston-Salem; one son, Darryl Worthy of the U.S. Navy; one stepson; a devoted friend, Mary Frances Payne; two grandchildren; several other relatives and friends. Services were held at 4 p.m. on Monday, June 29, at Gilmore Memorial Chapel, with the Rev. A.H. Champagne officiating and the Rev. Royce Myers assisting. Burial followed in Glenn's Chapel AME Zion Church Cemetery in East Bend. Gilmore's Funeral Home was in charge of the funeral arrangements. ROBERT C. WILLIAMS Robert C. Williams, 77, of 1526 E. 22nd St. died Thursday, June 25, at Baptist Hospital. He was born in Lancaster, S.C., and was a member of Grace Presbyterian Church and a retired employee of Bethlehem Steel Co. Williams was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army, and a member of American Legion Post 220. He is survived by his wife, Lelia Williams of the home; five sisters, Sallie C. Bailey, Ellen Stewart, Rosa L. Howard, Emma Shouse and Lucile Faulkner, all of Winston-Salem; two sisters-in-law; six brothersin-law; several other relatives and friends. Services were held at 4 p.m. on Monday, June 29, at Grace Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. L.V. Lassitcr officiating. Burial followed in Evergreen Cemetery.
