The program will feature a "Fun Night" Friday, July 18. Crowder < June 15 for its monthly meeting. .The meeting was opened with i the reading of the Collect and the i singing of the club song. Mrs. Ellsworth Banner, president, presided. Emmaline Good. win read the minutes of the previous meeting, Verna Grier presented the treasurer's report and Savila Wilson gave the Manancial report. > Carrie Mayfield, correspon- . ding secretary, read a letter from the State Federation of Garden and Flower Clubs. There was a discussion of the recent Fourth District Flower and Garden^ Show, held at the Rupert Belf Recreation Center. The nominating committee made its report and Mrs. Grier read the slate of officers for - * 1988-89. r. Officers are Mrs. Banner, president; 'Julia Johnson, first vice president; Bronnie Daniels, second vice president and Sinclair ' Crowder, third vice president. " local storyteller The local chapter, Beta Lambda, of the national sorority of Phi Delta Kappa Inc. held its last meeting of the year June 17 at the home of Lizetta Staplefoote. Beatrice Watts, the chapter's basileus, presided. Following the ritualistic opening of the meeting, Shirley H. Holloway was presented a certificate of award for her I achievements and efforts in forming the Tarheel Association #f? Storytellers. Mrs. Holloway was also recognized for her contributions in sharing her stories with the area's young people. ine award was presented by I Mabel Jessup, awards chairperson. A "Chit, Chat and Chew" social hour was held for Mrs. Holloway by the chapter at Mrs. i Jessup's home June 24. During the meeting, a report was given on the second annual "Stars on Parade" by Mattie Mae Alexander. The fund-raiser was a conbination of a contest, fashion and talent show. Proceeds will benefit the educational and charitable endeavors of the sorority. The talent show phase mn. sisted of piano and dance selections by gifted children of the city. Fashions for play, beach and street were modeld by the contestants and other boys and girls. Dr. Williaip Lyles will be the banquet speaker. Lyles, a New York psychologist, is featured in the currefit issues of Ebony magazine and he is also a member of the reunion class.
