He was a native of Bishopville, S.C., and had lived in Winston-Salem for 32 years. Gregg was a Methodist and a carpenter. He is survived by his mother, Fostwenia S. Gregg of WinstonSalem; one sister, Dorothy G. McDaniel of WinstonSalem; a brother-in-law, the Rev. J.L. McDaniel of Winston-Salem; one brother, Mack Gregg of Bishopville; a devoted friend, Christine Samuels of Winston-Salem; several other relatives and friends. services were held at 1 pjn. on Thursday, Dec. 24, at Clark S. Brown and Sons Funeral Home, with the Rev. David L. Thompson officiating. Burial followed in Evergreen Cemetery. Clark S. Brown and Sons was in charge of the funeral arrangements. ELIZABETH WILSON PAYNE Elizabeth Wilson Payne of 1610 N. Patterson Ave. died Monday, Dec. 21, at Baptist Hospital. She was a native of Winston-Salem and attended the local public schools. She was an employee of Thorn as ville Furniture Co. Payne was a member of Friendship Baptist Church, where she served as a Sunday school teacher, on the senior choir and as past president of the Willing Workers Club. She is survived by two daughters, Wmda Payne and Veronica Payne, both of WinstonSalem; one son and daughter-in-law, Charles G. Payne Jr. and Janice Payne, both of Winston-Salem; four brothers, James Wilson of New York City, Jessie Wilson, the Rev. James Edward Payne of 4119 Carver School Road died Friday, Dec. 25, at the Pellcare Nursing Home Center. He was a former employee of the Safe Bus Co., owner and operator, of Payne Casket Co., and owner and operator of Payne Shell Service Station at 16th and Liberty Street Payne was associate minister of Galilee Baptist ^ Church. He is survived by his wife, Nettie L. Payne; one daughter, Jacquelyne Payne of Upper Marlboro, Md.; two sons. Dr. Lawrence Payne of Buffalo, N.Y., and Arnold Pavne of the hnrrw ftiaht <rron/4/*hi1/4*??. 12 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Sophie Brown of Philadelphia, Pauline Payne Hairston and Callie Brooks, both of Winston-Salem; two nieces; three nephews; several sisters-in-law, other close relatives and friends. Services were held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 29, at Galilee Baptist Church, with Dr. W.C. Hay officiating. Burial followed in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. He was a retired employee of Hanes Dye Finishing Co. and a member of Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church, where he was a member of the senior usher board, the pastor's aid and other organizations of the church. Watlington is survived by his wife, Luncinda Witlington of the home; one son, James L. Watlington Jr. of Winston-Salem; one stepson, William Bitting of Winston-Salem; one sister, Maggie Slade of New York; two brothers, Paul Watlington of Greensboro and Odell Watlington of Montocella; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
