Thursday, March 17, 1988 Wiaston^Sakm Oimnkle Page A9 Layne Thompson Jabberwock Contestants Thirteen young ladies from the local schools are contestants in the 1988 Miss Jabberwock pageant sponsored by the alumnae chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. The pageant will be held Saturday, March 26, in the Kenneth R. Williams Auditorium at Winston- Salem State University. The event is open to the public. Contestants prepare for Miss Jabberwock event The Winston-Salem Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. will sponsor its 1988 Miss Jabberwock contest Saturday, March 26, at 7 p.m. The pageant will be held in the Kenneth R. Williams Auditorium on the campus of Winston-Salem State University. Entertainment for the evening will be provided by Curtis Hairston, a national record ing artist from Winston-Salem. Contestants in the pageant will include Carmen M. Barber, the daughter of Nathaniel and Diane Barber, and a student at West Forsyth; Monica D. Boyd, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Waunzo Shcrard, and a junior at R.J. Reynolds High School; Kcny- atta Dobbins, the daughter of Ken neth and Sharon Dobbins and a sophomore at North Forsyth; Shanell D. Frazier, the daughter of Sharon D. Frazier, and a junior at Reynolds; Elmia L. Hodge, the daughter of Hilda Hodge, and a sophomore at Carver; Amelia D. Jarrcit, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Jarrell Sr., and a senior at Carver; Johncllia Jordan, the daughter of John and Linda Jordan, and a senior at Carver; Jerolyn Layne, the daughter of Carl and Shirley Jones, and a junior at Park land; Robin L. Thompson, and a sophomore at Carver; Darian D. Street, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond C. Street, and a senior at North Forsyth; Latracia P. Whitmire, the daughter of Judith Whitmire-Black, and a junior at Mount Tabor; Marcia T. Williamson, the daughter of Eileen Ingram, and a senior at North Forsyth; and Chcvella T. Wilson, the daughter of Ricky and Mary Wilson, and a sophomore at East Forsyth. Deltas' Founders' Day to feature Winfrey Local chapters of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. will hold a Founders’ Day program Friday, March 18, at 7 p.m. in the Commu nications Building at Winston- Salem Slate University. Dr. Deborea Winfrey, a local psychologist, will be the guest speaker for the occasion. The founders' day program is open to the public. Delta Sigma Theta Sorority was founded in 1913 at Howard University by 22 women dedicated to providing community service programs. The sorority sponsors pro grams focused around their five- point program which includes political involvement, housing issues, mental and physical health and other areas. The local alumnae chapter is one of die sorority's more than 500 chapters located in this country and abroad. Us membership of more than 100,000 members represents all professions and career fields.
