George B. Jackson to highlight local Men's Day
The annual Men's Day Ser
vice for Cleveland Avenue Chris
tian Church (Disciples of Christ)
will be held Sunday June 17,at 11
a.m. at the church.
The guest minister is Rev.
George B. Jackson of Salisbury,
He received a Bachelor of Arts
degree in Political Science from
N.C. Central University in
Durham.
He is a student at Southeast
ern Baptist Theological Seminary
in Wake Forest. He plans to grad
uate in 1990 with a Master of
Divinity degree.
Some honors that have come
to him include The Francis Kome-
gay Scholarships Award, NCCU
Student Life Award, a nomination
to the 1986 list of Outstanding
Young Men of America.
He also was named Coach of
the Year for the Youth League and
received the Pride of the Commu
nity Award and ihre Francis A.
He has served as a Senior
Counselor of Horizon Youth Ser
vices of Gastonia, and as program
director of Gaston Boys Club.
Jackson was licensed as a
baptist minister in December
1986. He was ordained April 12,
1987, at Macedonia Baptist
Church in Salisbury.
His community involvement
includes service as president of
the Ebony Alpha Ebony Service
Organization, chairman of the
Martin Luther King Social Action
Group, vice president of the
Counsel of Independent Organiza
tion and chairman of the NCCU
Central Public Relations Club.
Others participating in this
worship service are: Frank Beal,
Odell Clanton, Roland Hayes Jr.
James Stewart, and Clyde Hayes.
The event is under the direc
tion of Leveomal Southerland and
James Stewart. James M. Bunell
is president of the Christian Men's
Fellowship the organization spon
soring this annual event.

Council Convention will be held at
St. Peter's Church of God Apos
tolic, 1031 Highland Ave., June
20-June 26.
Pastor Robyn Gool of Char
lotte, will be the featured speaker.
Gool is pastor of Victory
Christian Center in Charlotte. He
was bom in Detroit, and is a gradu
ate of Oral Roberts University,
Tulsa, OK.
In his book. Proper attitudes
Toward Leadership, Rev. Gool
States, "Attitudes are vitally
important; they can cause us to win
or to lose. Our attitude toward the
Word of God must be right. No one
expect to succeed in life with a
wrong attitude - especially toward
those in positions of authority over
him. Attitudes effect success in the
spiritual realm just as they affect
success in the natural realm."
Gool has seen the rewards of
having proper attitudes toward
leadership. He believes that for
many in the body of Christ, this is
the missing ingredient to their liv
ing a life of victory.

The Arts Council Inc., has
announced the appointment of
Betty Zammit as 1988-89 chair
man of Urban Arts Advistxy Com
mittee. Mrs. ZammiL a member of
the Arts Council Board of
Trustees, was appointed to the
position by Ann B. Adams, chair
man of The Arts Council, Inc.
Urban Arts Advisory Committee is
a standing committee of the Arts
Council.
The Executive Committee
appointed by Mrs. Zammit are
Ricky Wilson, chairman elect;
Elwanda Ingram, vice chairman;
George Nixon, treasurer; Marie
Burney secretary; and Dr. J. David
Branch, past chairman.

In commenting on her chair
manship, Mrs. Zammit noted that
the decision to become a funded
member agency indicates the
strength and growth Urban Arts
has achieved.
"Community programming is
necessary to broaden exposure to
the arts. Large cultural gaps remain
in many areas of the populace.
Urban Arts is providing the means
to close the gaps," she added.

Sarah Hauser to
mark anniversary
The fourth pastoral and 22nd
ministerial anniversary services for
Pastor Sarah C. Hauser will be
held at Revelations of Faith
Church beginning June 19 and
ending June 26. Speakers for the
services will include Bishop T.R,
Rice, the Rev. Claude Thomas,
Pastor Essie McCollough, the Rev,
Hilton Slone, the Rev. John Miller.
Elder Joseph Lowery and Bishop
A.W. Brown.
Mrs. Hauser was called into
the ministry and preached her trial
sermon in March 1966 at Kimberly
Park Holiness Church, under the
late Bishop S.M. Ceasar.
She served as the superinten
dent .of the Sunday school at
Mercy Seat Holiness Church and
in other areas of the church before
leaving to establish J.A. Coleman
Memorial Chapel. There she
served as assistant pastor to Pastor
McCollough.
Mrs. Hauser is employed by
the Forsyth County Family Plan
ning Program. She also is a mem
ber of the East Winston City/Coun-
ly Planning Board and of the Black
Easter Sunrise Committee.
