The Council for Older Adults lists of 76 member agencies committed to enhancing the ility of life for the elderly of isyth County. The Council serves as a ource to agencies and profes- nals by establishing a forum for the exchange of information and mutual support. Additionally the Council, under Mrs. Matthews' direction, has sponsored educational events for professionals and the commu nity. Conferences have included "Mapping a Stroke” with Pauicia Neal as keynote speaker; "Caring for Aging Relatives;" The Shep herd Center Conference; and the 1988 conference,"Aging and Shel ter in Western North Carolina.” Mrs. Matthews, as executive director, has been instrumental in the development of a range of programs devoted to the needs of the elderly. The Council coordinates the Lawyer Referral Service for older adults, the Senior Health Insur ance Information Program, and a monthly meeting of Council agencies. Additionally, the Coun cil produces a newsletter, "The Senior Scene," which provides information both to agencies serv ing the elderly and to older people living in the community. According to David Piner, president of the Board of Direc tors of the Forsyth County Coun cil for Older Adults, many of the agency's accomplishments are directly attributable to the hard work of Peggy Matthews. He said that "Mrs. Matthews has been an effective advocate for the needs of older people in Forsyth County and has served the community devotedly. The Council will miss her expertise and leadership." A reception honoring Mrs. Matthews will be held on Tues day, June 21 from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at the public library as part of the annual meeting of the Forsyth County Council for Older Adults.
