Anniversary Times The Spiritual Choir of New Bethel Baptist Church will celebrate its 14th anniversary at the church Sunday, July 9, with founder Ida Pauling directing. The choir provides various church services. New Bethel Baptist Church Spiritual Choir to mark 1 4th anniversary New Bethel Baptist Church will celebrate the 14th anniversary of its Spiritual Inspirational Choir Sunday, July 9, at 7 p.m. Trustee J.C. Gilmore will pre side at the program. - ? Other participants will include Jhuria Ingram, welcome address; George Sims, response; Eva Roundtree, song selection; Matthew Moore, scripture; Daniel Piggott, prayer; Harold Easter, history; Susie Drayton, remarks; Dr. Jerry Dray ton, introduction of guest speaker; the Rev. J.R. Samuels, sermon; Ida Pauling, special remarks. Mrs. Pauling is the choir's director. The Rev. J.R. Samuels, pastor of St. Stephen Baptist Church, and in, , Ida Pauting his choirs will be the special guests. Joining the program Sunday morning will be members of the Black Political Awareness League, of which Naomi Jones is president. Other organizations and their presidents participating will be the Community Goodwill Club, Masey Ciphers, president; and the Skyland Senior Citizens Club, Janie Wilson, president. Officers of the Spiritual Choir are Pauline Stevenson, president; Willie M. Williams, vice president; and Ethel Brooks, financial secre tary. Other officers and musicians are Mary Shuler, Cora Broome, Doretha Shannon, Doris Crosby, Blandine Anderson, Peggy Moore, Macedonia Holiness Church of God Inc. plans anniversary celebration for Dr. Robert L. Wise Macedonia Holiness Church of God Inc., 41121 Whitfield Drive, will observe the 23rd pastoral anniversary of its pastor and general overseer, Dr. Robert L. Wise, at the headquarters church. The observance will be held nightly beginning Sunday, , through Sunday, July 16. Various local and area pastors and their congregations will partici pate in the services. Dr. Wise's ministry spans over 30 years and includes a radio min istry. He completed the 23rd year of uninterrupted radio broadcasting this^ear. Under his leadership Macedo nia has experienced growth spiritu ally, materially and in membership. Services will be held nightly at 7:30. Saints Home United announces contest winners The. Viola Gywn was crowned queen and Andrew Hanes was crowned King. Both received a ban ner and a flower bouquet. Rhonda Brock finished in third place and Paula McCoy was fourth. Music was provided by Eloise Eccles and guest musician Shelby Davis. Sandra Pennington was mis* tress of ceremonies. Ruth Brock welcomed the group. Melvernia Martin, Bernice Murrell and B.D. McCoy presented a reading. Angela Robinson provided instrumental music for the occa sion. CHURCH NEWS DEADLINES ... The Chronicle welcomes church news and calendar items. Mrs. Pauling founded the choir 14 years ago when she saw a need for the church to establish a new choir. She discussed the idea with the church's pastor, Dr. Drayton, and the late Deacon W.M. Shivers, chair of the Deacon Board. The choir was organized July 12, 1975 with Mrs. Pauling and Mary Shuler present. The first rriembers of the choir were Mr. and Mrs. S.T. Williams, Pauline Stephens, the late Viola Blair and the late Flossie Johnson. The choir now has 27 mem bers. Mrs. Pauling said that the choir was founded on the principal, "United we will stand, divided we will fall." - In addition to providing music of the church's programs, the Spiri tual Choir is active in the communi- . ty. They visit and pray with the sick and shut-in, provide utensils for the church kitchen, and join other groups in sponsoring church activi ties such as the Christmas dinner. The choir also has made dona^ tions toward the purchase of a church van, to the building fund and the janitorial service. The choir has contributed to the NAACP, the prison ministries and other charitable functions in the community.
