First Calvary marks Men's, Women's days First Calvary Baptist Church observed its annual Men's and Women's Day Sunday, Oct. 8. Speakers for the occasion were Dr. Manderline Scales, special assistant to the vice chancellor of student affairs at Winston-Salem State University, and Benjamin Ruf fin, director of corporate affairs at R J. Reynolds. Carl McLaurun was named king and Mary Holmes was crowned queen. The runners up were Carl John son and Edna Chavis. Laura T. Kennedy was program chair. Committee members were Franklin Bennett, Macie Sibert, Dorothy Draper and Willie Parker. Special Celebration The king and queen recently were crowned at First Calvary Baptist Church during the church's observance of Men's and Women's Day.
