Boyd Holden and Helen Christian Basorr. She resided in Durham before moving to Columbia. She was a graduate of Atkins High Schooljand North Car olina Central University. She received her doctorate from the University of Connecticut. She is survived by one daughter, Maygret Jo (John) Wood of Columbia, Md.; one son, Joe, of Maryland; and one sister, Mrs. Ruth Holder Crump of New York City, N.Y. Mr. Dobson was born in Winston-Salem, on March 27, 1930 to the late Mr. and Mrs. Wiseman Dobson. He was a former member of Piney Grove Baptist Church and was a veteran of the United States Army. He is survived by three sisters, Mary (Hillard Sr.) Summers, YVonne (Jack) Jackson, both of Winston Salem, and Odessa (Eugene) Hanes oT CbTumbiaT" Md.; five brothers, Warren Dobson, Wiseman Dob son, Bernard Dobson, Benjamin Dobson, and Steve Dobson, all of Winston-Salem; plus many other rela tives and friends. Funeral services were held August 22, at 2 p.m., at Russell Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. James F. Linville officiating. Burial followed at Ever green Cemetery. Mr. and Ms. St. Stephen crowned The First Annual Mr. and Mrs. St. Stephen Pageant was held on Sunday, August 18 at 6 p.m. at the church which is located on Noble Street. The devotion was lead by ?Deacon Calvin Fluitt. Mrs. Audrey Farrow provided the greetings. - The Processional was led by Mrs. _ Edith Cox and Mrs. Ruth Stokes. William McGill composed and ? played the "March Royal" for the contestants. Those making a donation were Juanita Archie, Mattie Brad dy, Barbara Cook, Mary Williams, Wilbert Thompson, Benjamin Mickens, and Samuel Evans. The donors were given certificates of ? participation. Raymond Couthen, Sr. com posed and wrote "We Crown Thee," played by Mr. McGill and ^ sung by Maurice Jackson during ? the crowning. Certificates of recognition were presented to the following King & Queen participants: Dea con Tommie Jackson, Willie Squire, Phamon Jones, Mary Parks, and Mary Clark. The 3rd Runner-up for King was Charlie Douglas; the 2nd Runner-up was Roosevelt Hop Kins. The 3rd Runner-up for Queen was Jessie H. Dumas; the 2nd Runner-up was Ernestine Rucker. The Rev. J.R. Samuels crowned Charles Crowder, Jr. King and Ella O'Neal Queen. Deacon T.C. Robinson and William Birch were in charge of the finances. Mrs. Deborah McLean provided the programs. Coordinators for the pageant were Mrs. Edith Cox, Mrs. Ruth Stokes, and Ms. Mildred Williams, who also narrated the program. The Rev. J. R. Samuels is the pastor. Sunrise Towers celebrates 'Sunrise' service Elder George Hauser Jr. and Sunrise Towers apartments will celebrate the 1st anniversary of the "Church at Sunrise" services on Sept. 1 and 15, with special services at 4 p.m. One year ago, Mrs. Audrey Lowery, Community Sen/ice Clerk at the Sunrise Towers apartments, observed that there were many (home-bound) residents with a ? desire to attend church services. : Mrs. Lowery began a search for a full-time minister on Sunday morn ings at 11 a.m. for one hour to give the Sunrise Tower residents a ; spiritual uplift. She contacted her cousin, Pastor Sarah Hauser. Pastor Hauser felt that Elder ; George Hauser, Jr., who loves to ; sing the "old timey" hymns and t was already well known by most : of the people at Sunrise Towers, would be perfect for the task. ; Thus, the "Church at Sunrise" was_ ; born on Sunday, Sept. 16, 1990.
