Vikings Pee Wees romp, 33-0 By Chronicle Staff The Vikings Pee Wee team showed why they are considered prime contenders for a Sertoma Bowl berth when they demolished' Walkertown, 33-0 last Satur day. The Vikes, who went undefeated last year, scorcd all of their points in the first half to put the game away. If not for sever al penalties, the Pee Wees could have easi ly scorcd 50 points. But based on the first quarter action, it seemed thai Walkertown would stay in contention. The Wolfpack trailed 7-0 at the start of the second quarter. At that , point, the Vikes took complete control of the game in all phases, particularly in the trenches. Photo by Chronicle Staff J. You might as well chalk up another victory for Winston-Salem State when they visit Kentucky State on Saturday (kickoff is 1:45 p.m.). That's no disrespect to the Thorobreds. It's just that there's such a vast difference in quality between the two programs. However, there are two ways that the Rams can actually lose. ? They become so complacent that they play the game while sleepwalking, or, ? They don't make the trip to Frankfort, Kyi, giving K-State a for feit victory. Unless the Rams manage to totally disregard Kentucky State, it's Sheridan Black College Football Poll As of October 11th Ranking & Overall School Record 1 . Virginia Union 5-0-0 2. Mississippi Valley State 6-0-0 3. Alabama State - 4-0-1 4. North Carolina A&T 4-1-0 5. Winston-Salem State 5-0-0 6. South Carolina State 4-0-0 7. Alcorn State 4-1-0 8. Delaware State 3-1-0 9. Central State 3-1-0 10. Norfolk State 4-2-0 going to be a long afternoon for their followers. This is a team that has had its problems. They're 1-6 and haven't experienced victory since the opening week of the season (a 17-14 triumph over Morehouse on 8/31). K- State won't have nearly enough to contend with Winston. In six games the offense has given up 12 interception and lost six fum bles, which averages out to three turnovers a game. Can't beat the Rams that way. In addition to that, the quarterback, Don Catlett, is KSC's leading rusher (34.8 ypg). The rest of the ground attack hasn't produced very much ? 2.9 ypc. But the air game has been decent except for DBs pickoffs. Catlett has passed for 717 yards and three touchdowns, while Jygn Taylor and Sean Stevenson are both avearging better than 16 yards per reception. In the end, the final margin of victory will depend on the Rams, as evidenced in last weekend's performance against Fayetteville State. Winston won 28-8, but had to sweat a few bullets before putting the game away in the fourth quarter with touchdowns by back-up QB Rovelle McMillian and running back Bobby Brown. Let*& not forget that the Broncos (1-4) have not won a game on the field up to now. Their singluar victory came via a forfeit in their game vs. Carson Newman. Coach Pete Richardson's biggest problem with his team at this juncture is keeping them focused. The Rams have been, and still are, a team that plays to the level of its competition.
