Paying your taxes with a money order
It s that terrible time of the year
again, T-day, or tax day. With April
15 fast approaching^ some of the
concerns people have are not only
how much they have to pay, but
how to pay. As more and more
Americans opt to use a checking
account, payment of taxes can be a
problem. T&xes cannot be paid with
cash.
A money order is the perfect
solution to paying state and federal
taxes according to James K. Bill,
president of Travelers Express
Company, Inc., the nation's largest
NAACP Fair
Share gets
good results
Fred H. Rasheed, the director
of the NAACFs Economic Devel
opment Department, has reported
that Fair Share agreements have
produced an extraordinary flow of
ijgcongmic^teneOts to the African
American community.
According to Rasheed, from
I986-I990r these benefit* have
exceeded some $47 billion, affect
ing not only minority entrepreneurs
and professionals, but employees
who have been provided upper
mobility at the companies.
The analysis was prepared by
the NAACFs Economic Develop
ment Department from information
submitted by the participating com
panies.
More than 50 major corpora
tions have signed the agreements
but the analysis of results was con
fined to only those companies who
have signed Fair Share Agreements
during the period September 1982
through December 1989.
Operation Fair Share was initi
ated by the NAACP in 1981 to
ensure that a fair share of the dol
lars spent by African-American
consumers are reinvested back in
their communities in the form of
jobs and business opportunities.
The voluntary agreements
identify goals in such areas as pur
chasing from minority suppliers;
utilization of African-AiQAlifllfltai
contractors, professionals, and
financial and insurance institutions;
establishment of affirmative action
programs; opportunities for
advancement into senior manage
ment positions; representation on
corporate boards, and philanthropic
contributions to worthy African
American organizations and caus
es.

Of all the stupid fantasies, this
is my favorite. I'd really like to be
America's television executive for
one month with the sole responsi
bility of programming for all of
American television. For 30 straight
days, I'd program nothing but the
Lawrence Welk Show, Sesame
Street, and renins of Bonanza, and
maybe a few episodes of The Cosby
Show. At night, fd play nothing but
reruns of Billy Graham's favorite
sermons. What a great thought]
