Sports Briefs High Point golf tournament The thirteenth annual High Point Golf Swingers Tournament will take place on July 18 and 19 at the Blair Park and Oak Hollow Golf Courses in High Point. Starting time for the opening round is 8 a.m. at Blair Park on July 18. Flights will be determined based on first round results. On July 19, the final 18 holes of medal play will take place at Oak Hollow. The entry fee is $85 which includes cart and green fees for both days. The deadline for entries is July 1. Trophies will be awarded to the top^four golfers in each flight. This year's tourna ment will include four regular flights, a senior flight and a women's flight (entries permitting). In addition, there will be a Closest To The Pin Contest and Longest Drive Contest on July 18. Tournament-Elated activities will include an acquaintance party on July 17 in the Hospitality Room at the Elks Club on Wade St: On July 18, the ladies activities begin at 11 a.m. That night, there will be a dinner at the Elks Club following the tour nament. Admission is $5 a person for golfers and guests. Headquarters for this tournament is the Holiday Inn Market Square in High Point (919/886-7011). Youth track sign-ups, try-outs The Tri-City Relays Track Club will have sign-ups and try-outs on Saturday and Sunday at Carver High School. The time for sign-ups and try-outs is 2 p.m. for both days. This youth track club will compete in invitational meets and AAU competition this spring and summer. The club is for boys and girls ages 6-18. Nineteen-year olds can also participate as long as they don't turn 19 before September of this year. TCs first meet of the season, the Char ? lotte Track Club Invitational will include the younger age groups. That meet will be held in Charlotte on May 9. The Tri-City organization, formerly known as the Twin City Relays, has merged with the High Point Track Club. Athletes in TC come from Winston-Salem, High Point, Lexington and Greensboro. The tournament will have a shot gun start at 8 a.m. This year's format will be a captain's choice for men and women. Entry fee is $30 per person or $120 per team. The entry fee does not include can and green fees. Prizes will be awarded to the teams with the 16 lowest scores. The registration dead line is set for May 12.
