Butchardoni Jackson Sharp rise in SBA loans to exporters A sharp increase in U.S. Small Business Administration-backed loans to U.S. exporting companies indicates a surging interest in over seas marketing, U.S. SBA Admin istrator Patricia Saiki said today. For the first 10 months of FY 1992, SBA has guaranteed almost 500 loans worth more than $174.35 million, 36 percent more loans and 41.5 percent more dol lars than during all of FY 1991. The dollar amount for the period is almost $10~ million more than for 1990 and 1991 combined and more than 35 percent of the total amount loaned to exporters since 1979. Growth in terms of the dollar amount loaned was particularly strong in the regions that included California (up 71.7 percent), Texas (up 76.7 percent), the Central Atlantic states (up 206 percent), the Southeast (up 64 percent) and the Central Plains states (up 75.4 percent). < Under the SBA's primary loan program, the 7(a) General Busi ness Loan Guarantee Program, the agency works with private lenders to guarantee up to 90 percent of loans issued by private commercial lenders, up to $750,000. SBA's International Trade Loan Program makes SBA loan guarantees of up to $1 million available to small businesses for fixed asset financing, with the bor rower also eligible for up to $250,000 in working capital. Jackson is a native of Winston Salerri. He earned a bachelor's degree in psychology from Winston-Salem State Universi ty and joined the N. C. Depart ment of Corrections in 1979. He had previously worked as a unit manager at Southern Cor rection Institution. Jackson is a member of the National Association of Blacks in Criminal Justice and a state executive board member of the American Correctional Associ ation. He is also a member of Phillips Chapel Baptist Church and the president of the Delta Sigma Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity. He and his wife Doris G. Jackson will move to the Raleigh area.
