Freedom of Choice IS Yours If you have ridden out in what used to be the rural areas you will find the communities changing! There's a grocery store and small shopping centers on almost every comer. The farm land is being sold to create housing developments with beautiful and expensive homes. Lit tle towns and villages are becoming incorporated and independent. No longer are the people in these vil lages laughed at and looked Upon as not being exposed to up-to-date information. Many of these once rural people are educated and pro fessional in their fields. Those who are not educated are abreast of the latest trends, techniques, and things that are happening within our soci ety. Every citizen should become familiar with his neighborhood, try to improve it and get involved in making some of the decisions for the betterment of the community. Consider able effort then is required to main tain as many attractive communities as possible with adequate housing, jobs, recreational opportunities, and other high quality community ser vices. We must decide what we want for our cities, suburbs, small towns, and rural areas and begin now to provide new, creative thought in planning for communities of tomorrow. The economic, social, political, _ and cultural strength of our commu nities and cities arises from the vari ety of skilled, talented, enterprising, and public-spirited people we find in them. Look about you. You as an individual and you as a group are ^ making choices every day that affect the future of your community. Do your choices promote orderly growth and development? Are you winning the battle against blight, deterioration of housing, noise, con gestion, loss of population, decline in economic activity, and adjusting to technological change? We are just beginning to turn our attention to ways of improving communities. If they are really for p?*>ple, decisions on the living and forking environment must receive top priority.
