Sarah Murray Stephney and Willie G. Wright were recognized for their dedicated ser vices. The Belview Civic League was organized in 1945 and meets the first Friday of each month at the recreation center. Ruby Charles is the league's president. Post 453, Supports Community Causes Members of American Legion Post 453 and its Auxiliary con tributed a total of $2,820 to the Cen tral Children's Home of North Car olina during the 47th annual Pil grimage Day ceremony. The event was held at the Children's Home in Oxford on Oct. 25. Pilgrimage Day began in 1941 when the Old Division B of the state Black American Legion organiza tion began contributing to the Chil dren's Home. Founded in 1882, it is the only black and one of the oldest orphanages in North Carolina. This year's contributions n totaled $12,327.85. Steve Freeman and Gail Wilson spearheaded their unit drives. The theme for the event was "A Square Deal for Every Child." The service committee of Post 453 headed by the Chaplain Odell Jackson and the service officer William McDonald recently made a $300 donation to the emergency dis aster fund to help the hurricane vie 3 tims in both Florida and Louisiana. Other projects undertaken in the community recently was a $100 donation to the Byers-Westmore land family fund for the children's burial expenses. They also presented a full pow ered wheelchair to the honorable Nelson Malloy during a ceremony at the Post home recently. Masonic Lodge Holds Annual Public Program The Eleventh District of the Order of the Eastern Star, an affili ate of the Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge Free and Accept ed Masons jurisdiction of North Carolina will present its annual pub lic program and chapter of Sorrow Sunday, Nov. 8, at 5 p.m. at the Masonic Temple, 1425 E. 14th St. The Rev. William Elder, pastor of Middlefork Christian Church, will be the speaker. Ricky Wilson is the Grand Dis trict Deputy for the Eleventh Dis trict. ABCD Gets Grant The Association for the Benefit of Child Development (ABCD) has received grants for each of its two programs from the Winston-Salem Foundation. The ABCD Infant/Toddler Stimulation Program, located on the pediatrics floor of Reynolds Health Center, is recipient of a $10,000 grant to broaden and expand ser vices to disadvantaged, high-risk infants, toddlers, and their families who come to Reynolds Health Cen ter for health care and parenting education. The program also provides training and supervision of peer counselors who assist other mothers and provide parenting information in the pediatrics clinics. This grant was provided from the Samuel A. and Roslyn S. Harris Fund. The ABCD Child Development Center, located in the Augsburg Community Center downtown, received $2,000 for general support. The program serves disadvan taged 2 to 3 -year-old preschoolers and their families who live in the downtown church center neighbor hood. The grant was provided from the Rufus T.
