Booker Leaves Health Dept., Joins CDC By MARK R MOSS Chronicle Staff Writer Ysonne Booker, winner of the Winston-Salem Chronicle's 1992 Community Service Award, has resigned from the Forsyth County Department of Health and has accepted a position with the East Winston Community Development Corp. <v Booker, who was a community serv ice consultant with the health department, said that the newly-cre ated position of vice president for human development at CDC is not too much different from her respon sibilities at the health department. There, she said, she worked one-on responsibility is to work in develop ing the whole family. CDC is a non-profit, commu nity-based outfit that helps with the economic development of East Winston. The best way to look at it is to say that I do the human side of eco nomic development." said Booker, who has been in her new position since March 29. About a year ago. she explained, city officials and a foun dation asked CDC to get involved in the administration of a program that Although the corporation partici pated. CDC officials realized they had a void that needed to be filled. Booker said. She will step in to manage those programs and will help to cre ate others, she said. "It doesn't do any good to develop houses," she said, "if you don't develop the people who will live in them." Educator Receives NCAE * Yvonne Booker Human Relations Award Ann Dubose Little, assistant principal of Konnoak Elementary School, was recognized as the Human Relations Award winner for District .5 at the Forsyth Association of Classroom Teachers' Apprecia tion Banquet held May 18 at the Elks Club. District 5 is composed of Stokes, Forsyth and Davidson coun ties. Candidates nominated for the award must exemplify- personal and professional growth, community service and civic contributions at the local, state and/or national level. Nominees must show a consistent commitment to the betterment of humanity and the improvement of the quality of life. Little is a member of the Exec utive Board "of FACT. She was pre sented a plaque for serving on the board from 1989-1993. She has served as an association representa tive at Old Richmond Elementary and Konnoak. as first vice president and second vice president, and as a member of several FACT commit tees, including the Legislative Com mittee. She has been a delegate to a number of NCAE and NEA conven tions. She will attend the NEA con vention in San Francisco June 30 through July 5. Little received a plaque for first Ann Little place on the state level for a quiz book written about African-Ameri can contributions during the Martin * Luther King Jr. celebration in Raleigh on Jan. 15. She received the Assistant Prin cipal of the Year Award for District * 5 in 1991-1992 and was named among Who's Who in American Education in 1989-1990 and 1992 1993. Little was the winner of the NCAE Minority Affairs Arts Con test in 1987 and h988. She was one of six state finalists for the Terry Sanford Award in 1986 and a semi finalist for the Teacher of the Year Award in 1989-1990. She attended the Y ear-Round School Conference Evans Receives Degree Delores Benton Evans, a native of Winston -Salem and a graduate of Atkins High School, received her law degree form the North Carolina Central University School of Law on May 15. Evans has a degree in sociology from North Carolina Central Uni versity and a masters degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Evans is a real estate broker and is the owner and manager of the Benton-Evans Realty in Durham. , She is the daughter of Mary H. Benton of Winston-Salem and Roo sevelt C.
