Robert Mielke, Northeast Missouri State University, will lecture on MWilliam Dean How ells and the White City; Personal Immortality, Utopia and Victorian Taste" on July 15 at 8 p.m. Robert Hobbs of Virginia Commonwealth University will lecture on "Lee Krasnen Surviv ing Jackson Pollack" on July 20 at 8pjn. Gala to Benefit _ Fine Arts A gala reception and dinner honoring the opening of Theatre Gold, an exhibit of original paint ings by Francis Brown Jr., com memorating 1 1 legendary black pcrfcrmqs on the American stage, will be hosted and sponsored by Cafe Piafs chef, Don McMillan, on July 18 at 6 pjn. at Cafe Piaf. Cafe Piaf is located in the historic Stevens Center in downtown Win ston -Salem. This reception and dinner is a benefit for Winston Salem Delta Fine Arts In. Lee Cox Joins National Black Theatre Festival Staff Winston-Salem artist, writer and busi nessman Lee Cox has joined the staff of the 1993 National Black Theatre Festival as Public Relations Director and Special Assis tant to the Producer, Larry Leon Hamlin. The Festival will take place in Winston-Salem on August 2-7. . "We are fortunate to have Mr. Cox join . us," said Hamlin. "He is tied into a broad segment of our community. He brings a solid background in media relations and commu nity activism." During his career, Cox has held positions in radio and television around the country. He and his wife, Martha, owned and operated two frame shops and galleries and a wholesale framing business in Win ston-Salem. Since 1991, after selling the business, Cox has devoted full-time to screenwriting. He is in search of a Hollywood pro ducer 10 tin one of their screenplays lino a feature film. Lee Cox said that the Festival is a unique opportunity for our community. "I want to see the Feetivsl grow and make its mark in history as we put Winston Salem o the International theatre map," mid Cox. Mr Cox is affiliated with several com munity, arts and civic groups including the Associated Artists of Winston-Salem, the Am Council of Wfaaoo-Ssfem and Poriyii County, The Unitarian Univenalist Fellow ririp of Winnon-Salem, The Citizens Untold for Justice and other advocacy groups.
