Martha Jones Receives National History Award IThe annual Fall Conference of w*the American Legion and the Auxil iary Department of North Carolina timet in Charlotte Oct. 1-3. ? Grace Ragan, national execu ? tive committee chairperson, pre ! sented the National History award i to Department chaplin Martha G. ? Jones. Martha G. Jones Jones has served as the histo rian for the past two years in North Carolina. She has chaired the music department and Community Service Committee. She is presently serving as the department chaplain. The purpose of the Fall Confer ence is to evaluate the progress of the auxilary programs, committee reports, and to promote education of our membership and enthusiasm for their progress. Reports were heard from Eve lyn Frenches, No. 128 Education and Loan Chairperson. Naomi Lone, No. 220, represented the 18th district as president, Frances Strick land No. 453 serves as Fourth Divi sion President. Addie Jenkins No. 220 and Martha Jackson No. 220 President also attended the confer ence. The American Legion Confer ence was also held at the Marriott. Carl Miller Jr. Post No. 220 Com mander serves as Assistant Depart ment Sergeant-at-Arms. Henry A. Wilson Post No. 220 was appointed to serve Vice Chairman of Tar Hill Boys Stale. Additional Post No. 220 mem bers attending: Melvin Beatty, Paul Frazier, Robert Kimber, Clarence Simington, Kenneth Murphy and Samuel Stover. On Oct. 10 the Ralph R. Mor gan American Legion Post No. 220 and the Auxiliary hosted a reception for the 1993 Tar Heel Boys and Girls State Citizens at the Post Home. The citizens were very enthusiastic in relating their experi ences during their week's stay at Wake Forest University and UNC Greensboro. Banquet to Be Held The Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Coalition on Alcohol and Drug Problems will hold its third annual Community Service Awards Banquet at 7 p.m., Oct. 21, at the Benton Conve'fcBon Center. Awards will be presented to individuals and groups who merit special recognition for their efforts to prevent alcohol and other drug abuse. Beverly Coleman-Miller of Washington, D.C., a nationally rec ognized expert on violence and sub stance abuse prevention, will be the keynote speaker. Founder's Day First Baptist church will cele brate its annual Founder's Day Oct. 17, at 11 a.m. .'?.Alonza Lawrence, pastor of Westwood Baptist Church in Rich mond, Va., will be the guest ? Gilbert Campbell preacher. Lawrence is a graduate of Virginia Union University ?:id The Union Theological Seminary, both in Richmond. First Baptist Church will also have its Fall Revival Oct 18-21 at 7:30 p.m. with Gilbert G. Campbell Jr. pastor of New Calvary Baptist Church in Norfolk, Va.. as the guest evangelist. Campbell is the former .pastor of Mt. Zion Baptist Church here in Winston-Salem. The public is invited to attend. Mount Pleasant Baptist Church will hold its annual Revival Oct. 18 21. Prayer services will begrn at 7 p.m. with worship beginning at 7:30 p.m. Rev. Gregory K. Moss will be the guest speaker. Rev. Moss is a native of Statesville. N.C.
