Saturday at 6 p.m. in the Arts
Council Theater. 610 Coliseum
Drive.
The event is tree and open to

are necessarv and can he made by

crowd is anticipated.
Larry Leon Hamlin, executive
stage in Winston-Salem as'"The
Gatekeeper" in Maya Angelou's
musical. "And Still I Rise." starring
Clifton Davis and Ja'Net DuBois.
Hamlin will perform a scene from
the comedy "Day uf At) sum"
which the company will perform it
its entirety Feb. 1 X-27.
Other members of the company
performing include: J.W. Smith.
Freeman and Sabrina Rowdy.
Guest artists from the Triad
Fredrick Roundtree. poets Bill
Jackson and Darrin F. Glenn, and
actors .Mingo Long, Phillip

January 15 - N.C. Black Repertory Company will
presents its Ninth Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Birthday Celebration performing A Day of Absence."
written by Douglas Turner Ward, founder and artistic
director of the Negro Ensemble Company. Performance
starts at 6 p.m. at the Arts Council Theatre. 610
Coliseum Drive. Admission is tree, but reservations
must be made due to limited seats.
January 17 - 7:30-10:45 a.m.: Breakfast and
gospel fest at Mt. Zion Baptist Church. 950 File St. >
1 1 a.m.: From Violence to Victory" walk from Mt.
Zion to Benton Convention Center.
Noon: Commemoration of Dr. Kings's 65th birth
day at Benton Convention Center. Featured speaker will
be Mutter D. Evans, general manager of WAAA radio.
2 p.m.: Symposium at Mt. Zion Baptist Church
featuring youth speakers.
7 p.m. Rev. Ronald P. Davis Sr., pastor of St.
John s CME Church. will speak at Macedonia TVPH
Church of God. 500 Kinard Drive.
