Spring Meeting Compliance Seminar Tops Agenda Greensboro, N.C. ? The Mid ? Eastern Athletic Conference ; (MEAC) will hold its annual Spring - I Meeting May 24-27. (Tuesday'' -through Friday) in Atlantic City. I New Jersey at the TropWorld Casi l no and Entertainment Resort. C.om * missioner Ken Free and his staff will welcome the membership's Council of Chief Executive Officer* I (Presidents and Chancellors). Facul ? ty Athletic Representatives. Direc l tors of Athletics, head and assistant I coaches, Sports Information Direc-; ? tors, and athletic trainers. Other I administrators will represent offices of admissions, financial aid and registrars.. _ Headlining: the agenda is the MEAC Spring Compliance Seminar set for Wednesday and .Thursday. Selected NCAA staff members will attend to update and review legisla tion. The compliance sessions serve as an educational tool for the MEAC membership and initiates the Conference's 1994-95 NCAA Division 1 Coaches Certification Program. The MEAC will adminis- ' ter the written examination Thurs day, May 26. All coaches who recruit off campus must be certified by August 1 . An additional NCAA item on the agenda involves legislation that wilf increase sports sponsorship and the initial eligibility clearinghouse. The MEAC governing body will also address issues concerningahe status and /inalization*ol regular season Conference athletic sched ules. television packages, the Her itage Bowl; and the basketball tournament. Beginning September 1. 1994. a NCAA Division 1 member institu tion must sponsor seven varsity intercollegiate sports tor both men and women instead of the current six. I ne 'ME AC is an NCAA Divi sion 1 Conference and its current members are: Bethune-Cookman College (Daytona Beach. Florida). Coppin State College (Baltimore. Maryland). Delaware State Univer sity (Dover. Delaware). Florida A&M L'niversii) (Tallahassee. Florida). Howard University (Wash ington. D.C). the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (Princess Anne. Maryland). Hill and the winner of the women's eighth Mars McLeod Bethune All-Sports Awards. The awards are symbols of overall athletic excellence for each MEAC season among .the member institutions. May 20, at 7 p.m. This is the 12th class to be so acclaimed since the Hall of Fame was estab lished in the early 80s. The present inductees will join 98 former stars. The current class includes players Nigel Alston. Sandy Ray Gann, Wade Denny Key, Allyne Kimberly Lash. Winfred Mack, and Barbara Howell White. Coaches Gray Cartwright and Shirley "Red".
