The college graduates are rac ing to industries and other agencies to find employment. There are lim ited jobs and there is a lot of com petition in the job market. These are some important tips if you are looking for a job: One of the most dreaded expe?' rience that job seekers have today This means a lot of work, but it pays off. Go to the library and read J etaryJhing that been's recently written in newspapers about the company. Read magazine articles about the company. Ask the public relations office for their latest brochures and newsletter's. Then when the interviewer mentions a HOME ECONOMICS By JOANN J. FALLS is the job interview. It like hav ing an abscessed wisdom tooth pulled, because you ire constantly wondering what is going to happen next, v The first step to getting a job is * to write a good resume. They should have no problem about this, because you can go to the library and read helpful books on the sub ject such as: Help Wanted, Female by Alice Uore King, or the Protes sional Resume and Job Search Guide by Harold W. Dickhut and Marvel J. Davis. Write only one or two pages and^make your curriculum vitae look clean and tidy by using wide .margins and lots of white space. Don't overdo it. Avoid trying to stand out in the crowd by acting too individualistic. Never try to be clever in seeking a job. Example: One man sent his resume. plus a photo of himself in a Superman Costume. You know he failed to fly. Another eager young lady mailed her resume to the company president, then cornered him on the doorstep of his home one evening to ask if he had received it. TheV president had not seen the letter and was outraged that she should bother him at home. Always send original copies. newsy topic, you can say I read about that in the newspapers or in' magazines. Get your facts straight. One girl blew an interview when she said I want to work for you because you're the second largest company in America. The company was the first. Get the company'^ name right. Dress as you would on the job. Choice of dress depends on whether you are applying tor a job in a bar, a disco, a bank, or as a see % " ?? , i retary. . Always carry a briefcase to help you look efficient and keep you from having fumble through your purse for several minutes looking for your resume. Even if you have already sent one in, take along another. Use body language. According to a recent study, an interviewer often decides whether you will get the job or not during the first four minutes. Act positive, cheerful, and confident. Walk in and shake hands warmly. Take the chair nearest the interviewer. Avoid nervous habits like nibbling v?ur nails or fidgeting ' your hair. Sit straight and looV^ interested. Meet the interviewer eye to eye as you are talking, but don't stare. Don't be wishy-washy.
