2nd Annual Easter Fling
Kids, kids, and more kids
stormed the grounds of the St.
Peter's World Outreach Center on
April 1 in one of the Triad's largest
Easter egg hunt ever.
Aptly- called,- a-C&Udren- s
Eastef Fling, youngster and their
parents were bused from surround
ing areas - Happy Hills Gardens.
Stoney Glenn. Cleveland Avenue
Projects, and numerous other pick
up points - to join in the festivities.
Prior to the over 1.000 toddlers
to youth scrambling AV2f St Pel^r s
hill sides, the children were served
popcorn as they watched the Chil
dren's Church Praise Team get
everyone involved in clapping, tap
ping. and singing songs of praise.
The entertainment for the day
was telling the real Easter story
through a puppet show by the Chil
dren's Church Drama Ministry
Leader. Renee Henrv, and a mime
- r
by the Creative Arts Ministries Uut
reach Auxiliary, whose participants
were: Jeff Hoover as Jesus; Tommy
Hicks, the blind man; Valerie
^IcClellan. the crying woman; and
James C. Hash Jr.. the lamb man.
A* clowns, persons dressed in
various animal costumes, and fairy
tales characters, such as Tweedle
Dee. mingled with the children,
refreshments of hot-dogs, chips,
cookies, and drinks were served to
fhp amtinns crowd.
As the pastor, the Rev. J.C.
Hash Sr.. tried to prepare everyone
for the hunt, he made the mistake of
saying. "When I say ready, set. go.
then go for it." AIT those little ears
heard were the magic words:
READY, SET, GO; -and off they
flew, about 300 of them, what a joy
it was to watch, the scurrying and
clamoring! The fun really came in
trying to stop them. Because the
screeching and screaming of the
mass of children, it was hard to pull
-them hack Finally the fastest run
ners were in hot pursuit to stop
everyone, but not before over 100
eggs had been claimed.
The committee had certain
areas for each age groups, as the
. eggs had to be replaced, instruc
tions given, and then the'
KhAUY.Sbl, OU. home eggs had
money, some gift certificates, and
some candy. The yells of glee and
smiles' of parents and kids thrilled
the hearts for all who watched.
After gathering all the goodies,
each child was given a bag of treats,
prizes, and toys to take home; so no
one left empty handed. It was truly
a dav^of parent/child participation
and fun!
The weekend climaxed with Tf
production of "Have You Heard the
Good News?" by the Children's
Church Department under the lead
ership of Pat Stepney. The dramatic
musical told the story of Jesus and
those whose lives he touched with
his ministry.
This was St. Peter's second
year for the Easter Fling,' and they
hope next year's program will
bus to return home summed it up
best: "Mom." he said with laughing
eyes, ""We did good! Didn't we?
We sure had fun!" as he grabbed
her cheek for a big hug. "That's
what it's all about," stated Pastor
Michael Benton, who headed the
project, "saving the children, bring
ing families-together."
