Urban League CEO, "D" Smith, Honored
The Southern Regional Assem
bly of the National Urban League
was held May 5-7 in St. Peterburg.
Fla.
The theme was "The Urban
League in Transition: Challenges
and Opportunities."
John E. Jacob, national presi
dent of the Urban League, was the
featured speaker, and James O. Sim
mons, president of the Pinellas
County Urban League, hosted the
conference.
Delores Smith, president of the
Winston-Saiem Urban League, was
honored as "CEO of the Year." Her
implementation of innovative pro
grams and projects and her support
ive efforts to the local guild were
highlighted.

ter in Indiana.
Clifton Graduates Summa Cum Laude
Chaiies^S. Clifton, tHe son of
Charlie and Helen Clifton, recently
graduated from N.C. A&T State
University with a bachelor's degree
in electrical engineering.
He had a grade-point average
of 3.9, and was recognized as the top
student in the Department of Engi
neering while graduating second in
the class of 1,200 students.
Clifton's Summa Cum Laude
achievement has earned him a nom
ination to the NAMASKAR Soci
ety, which recognizes outstanding
academic achievement bn the
national level in the field of engi
neering.
He was. inducted into Alpha
Lambda Delta, the Freshman Honor
Society: Tau Beta Pi. the National
Engineering Honor Society in
which he served as treasurer: and
Eta Kappa Nu. the Electrical Engi
neering Honor Society in which he
served as vice president.
Clifton is a participant in the
GEM Fellowship Program.- which i
will allow him the opportunity to
pursue a master's decree in electri
^cal engineering.
He will continue his studies at
A&T this fall in the graduate school
working as an. intern with IBM in
Boca Raton. Fla.
He is a member of Dellabmok
Presbyterian Church and an alum
nus of Carver High School, where
