CIAA ROUNDUP Hampton Men - Tabbed CIAA's Best Hampton University captured the C.H. Williams Award, indicative of the CIAA's Men s All-Sport Championship. In capturing this year's award, the Hampton men's program has won the CIAA All-Sports title four consecutive years. The award was presented to Hampton Uni versity Thursday at the CIAA Award Luncheon held at the Holiday Inn-Coliseum in Hampton, Va. Hampton accumulated 185.5 points edging out rival Norfolk State which garnered 177.0 points during the 1993-94 athletic year. The same schools repeated their one-two finish of the last year. Johnson C. Smith repeated third place finish in 1993 and N.C. Central finished fourth, jumping from eighth place last year. Fayetteville State made the biggest improve ment in the men's all-sports category as the Bron cos finished in eighth place, up from thirteenth a year ago. Schools (teams) are awarded points deter mined by their finish in the CIAA conference sponsored championship or their respective sports. Points are awarded on a descending basis as determined by their relative finish to the num ber of teams participating in that particular sport (i.e., 1 1 -football, 14tbasketball). ^ ? Keith Smith of Shaw University wa^Tiamed Athletic Director of the YearT-Greg-Goings^of Virginia State University was named Sport Infor mation Director of the Year and Norfolk State was awarded the Jeanette Lee Athletic Achieve mentf Award for outstanding athletic administra tion for the year. A1 Myatt of the Raleigh News and Observer was named CIAA Sportswriter of the Year. The C.H. Williams Men's All-Sports Cham pionship award is named in honor of Charles. Hol ston Williams, one of the co-founders of the CIAA, and served in every CIAA Executive Administrative position. He was 1909 graduate of Hampton Institute starring in baseball while in college. As a coach at HI he won CIAA champi onship in football, baseball and wrestling. He served as^the HI athletic director until his retire ment in 1 95 1 . He died November 9. 1 978. Past C.H.
