Lodge to Host Banquet
Salem Lodge #139 of the
Prince Hall Masons and their guest
enjoyed a beautiful banquet at Holi
day Inn North along with their wor
shipful Preston McConnell and his
beautiful wife, Deloris. Bro. Julius
Epps, who is the junior warden of
the Lodge served as the master of
ceremonies.
The music was rendered by the
New Jerusalem Baptist Church
Male Chorus, they entertained us
with three selections. Bro. Warren
Napper, Jr. and Bro. Rev. Samuel
-Cornelius-were the lead soloists?
and had the place jumping for joy*
Bro. Lawrence Wade, who is the
new pastor of Lovells Chapel in
Pilot Mountain, gave the invoca
tion. The welcome was given by
Bro. Doug Ingram, who, did a
splendid job. *
Dinner was buffet style. Bro
Gentry Palmer and his committee
did a good job planning this ban
quet, food, music and speaker. Tne
brothers in Salem Lodge were on
the committee*

deceased veterans at the Evergreen
Cemetery on Memorial Day at 10
a.m.

forth from this day on pledge to be

At 6 p.m. the Post #220 Ameri
can Legion Auxiliary hosted a deli
cious buffet for the veterans and
their families.
The combined Post and Auxil
iaries also worshiped together at St.
Matthews Apolositic Church on
Sunday.

Young Honored at Dinner
The National Council of Negro
Women will honor Donley Young
at the 3rd Honors Award Dinner
Theatre on June 18 at Shilohian St.
Peters Day Care Center at ^ p.m.
Young won the award as top
recruiter and crowned Snow Queen.
This event was held at the first
meeting of the year and she will be
recognizod at the honors banquet.

Senior Services Inc. Receives Grant
Senior Service, Inc. has been
awarded a matching grant of
$3^0,000 by the Winston-Salem
Foundation to help improve fund
raising and community awareness
of its programs.

Executive Director Richard
Gottlieb said that Senior Service
will receive one dollar from the
foundation for every two dollars it
raises in new and increased gifts
from the community.
