Local Student Wins First Place Science Award On April 9, Sharene David son gave a presentation of her science fair project, "Observa tion of Esterification" at the Hol iday Inn North. This presentation was given at the April meeting of the Alpha Pi Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., the sponsor of this Science Fair Cash Award activity, and the Alphabettes. Davidson, a sophomore at North Forsyth High School won 1st place at the Science Fair, for the Alpha Pi Lambda/Lowden Anderson Science Cash Award ($250.00) which is given annu ally at the high school. She has a 3.8 grade point average and is the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Joyce & Edward Irby. In addi tion to the afore mentioned win, she also won 1st place at the District Level; Forsyth County, and 1st place at the North Car olina Region Five Science Fair, Stokes, Rockingham, Caswell, Person, Orange, Alamance, Guilford, Forsyth, Davidson, Randolph, and Chatham. At the District Level David son received a 1st place ribbon and a plaque. At the Regional Level the recipient received a plaque, a $40 cash award, a Sci Works Family membership, a graphic calculator and a chance to win an $8,000 cash scholar ship provided her entry (science project) is one of the top twenty five selected Davidson will pre sent her science fair project at the State Science Fair at A & T University on April 28 at Corbett Gymnasium. The evening was a festive one with many members on hand to honor those who have sacrificed their time and effort for the last 20 years. I HAWS to Sponsor Seminar On March 3, the Youth Council, Basketball Team, and Cheerleaders of the Winston Salem Housing Authority made the decision to improve their lives by attending the first annual "Learn-2-Lead" Seminar as an educational development component of their curriculum. Participants in these activities are required to attend tutorial, cultural, and educational activi ties. The purpose of this seminar was to bring together the youth in HAWS' communities through a night of workshops and enter tainment that encompassed Con flict Resolution, Sexuality, African Heritage, Swimming, Basketball, and a Dance. The fifty youth involved in this semi nar were willing to devote their time and energy to gain the knowledge necessary in attain ing their goal of becoming the future leaders of our nation.
