Left to right are Benzenia Purvis, LUa Row ell, Janie Senn, Herbert Sligh and Horace Kindle. Goler Memorial Celebrates 114th Anniversary On Sunday, October 22, Goler Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church celebrated it 114th anniversary. The theme was "Leading by Example: Faith in Action." Having been a pillar in the community since 1881, the Goler family and friends enjoyed a day of worship, reminicense and tributes, ending with a elabo rate repast. Deviating from the recognition of self, the church paid tribute to two Black bank executives for outstanding service to the community. The highlight of the day was the 5 p.m. program. The speaker for the evening was the Rev. Larry Fitzgerald, pastor of Collins Grove United Methodist Church. Music was rendered by his church choir and the Prison Min istry Choir of Goler. Kathleen Hunt paid a tribute in memory of Saints Home to Sponsor Tea Saints Home ' United Methodist Church will sponsor an International Tea on October 29 at 4 p.m. Six countries will be represented. Those attending may travel from country to coun try sampling the various foods and observing the unusual dis play of decorations depicting the countries. Also you will be entertained with local inspira tional talents. The program is sponsored by the Financial Committee of the Church. Press ley, a 32nd Degree Master Mason and Associate Minister of New Jerusalem Baptist Church, will be the key note speaker for Meridian Chapter #308 Order of the Eastern Star's Annual Ban quet. The Banquet will begin promptly at 7 p.m. on October 28 at Holiday Inn North, located on University Parkway. The Rev. Pressley, a native of Winston-Salem, graduated from R J.cReynolds High School and furthered his educational endeavors by earning a B.S. Degree in Political Science and Criminal Justice from Howard University, Washington, D.C.; a Juris Doctorate in Law from the National University, San Diego, Ca.; a Masters Degree in Theol ogy from the Charles H. Mason University, San Diego, Ca. Rev. Pressley is a life member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., Rev. Carlton N. Pressley and a member of Salem Lodge #139 and is a 32nd Degree Mason in King Solomon Consis tory #64 and Sethos Temple #170, Ancient Egyptian Order Noble Mystic Shrine. Rev. Pressley is currently working for the N.C. Dept. of Commerce as a Legal Specialist. "Religion and Ethics in 21st Century America" presents Dr. John William Kinney, Dean School of Theology at Virginia Union University. Richmond, VA 'Spirituality and Justice' Thursday October 26,1995 Winston-Salem State University Dillard Auditorium/Anderson Center 9:45 a.m. - Free Admission Dr. Kinney is nationally and internationally known not only as a prolific scholar but as a gifted preacher. In his appearance at WSSU, which is being made possible by the James A. Gray Endowment, ~ Dr. Kinney will offer an insightful discussion of the connection betweeti spirituality and justice. her husband, the late Rev. James L. Hunt, Sr., former pastor of Goler for eighteen years, and who passed away 12 years ago on the date of the-22 of October. Mem bers of the church who retired within the last five years were awarded certificates of commen dation. The day ended with a repast in the Fellowship Hall. Grady-Bagley Tonya Renae Grady and Stuart Brett Bagley were married in a ceremony at the Epworth by the Sea, St. Simons Island, Ga. on August 25 with the Rev. Dr. Stanley Bagley officiating. Tonya is the daughter of Sondra Grady and George R. Grady, Sr. of Winston-Salem. She is a graduate of East Forsyth High School and North Carolina State University with a B. S. in Industrial Engineering. She is currently employed by Kaiser Permanente in Atlanta, Ga. as a consultant. Stuart is the son of the Rev. Dr. and Mrs. Stan ley Bagley, of Cleveland, Ohio. He is a graduate of Morehouse College and Emory University Law School. He is currently employed by Drew Eckl & Farnham, in Atlanta, Ga. as an attorney. The bride was given in marriage by her father. The Maid of Honor was Katrina Butler of Wash ington, D.C. (niece of bride). The Best Man was Bernard Bagley of Riverdale, Ga. (brother of groom). The couple will live in Smyrna, Ga. Tonya Renae Grady New Hope Missionary Baptist Church to Sponsor Hallelujah Night New Hope Missionary Bap tist Church is hosting a Hallelujah (Halloween) Night on Oct. 28 from 6 - 8:30 p.m. Prizes will be given to the best looking, scariest, and/or most original costume.
