Celebrate
Kid's Day
The 30th District Masons
and Eastern Stars worked
together to make September
30 a special day for approxi
mately 2,000 kids.
Rupert Bell Park was the
scene of happy faces and
proud kids.
The masons began the
event with a march from the
Prince Hall Masonic Lodge on
14th Street to the park.
The march culminated at
10 a.m. at the grand stand in
the park and was followed by
a short devotional service, led
by the Rev. Brother Samuel
Cornelius of the New
Jerusalem Baptist Church. Sis
Pat Landingham and Brother
Benjamin Piggott served as
mistress and master of cere
monies and directed the activi
ties.
Activities included game
booths, entertainment, free
food and drinks and free
school supplies, including
book bags, paper, pencils, and
toys. ? ?
Hot dogs, hamburgers,
pizza, donuts, oatmeal cookies
and drinks were in abundant
supply.
The children's favorite,
the clown was on hand to
bring giggles and make funny
balloon animals for the kids.
Face Painting attracted
many of the kids, young and
old. Entertainment was pro
vided by; prep students from
the NCSA, Best Choice Center
and Housing Authority Com
munity Outreach Choir in the
direction of the Rev. Wilkins;
K-9 Squad (a local rap group),
Ted Adams and his guitar;
Sons of Joy; Morning Star
Young Adult Choir; and the
Knights of Pythagoras Preci
sion Drill Team.
Local supporters of the
event include; the W-S Police,
Fire, and Rescue Squads and
inany local businesses and
patron the 30th District
M asons, under the leadership
of district deputy Grand Mas
ter James Paul and the Eastern
Stars, under the leadership of
Grand District Deputy Lam
Dillard, are proud of the suc
cess of this first Kid's Day
Celebration.
Brother Paul sums up the
feelings of all who worked to
make this event a success -
"We must show our kids love
and positive role models in the
presence of so many negative
influences in their lives.
These are our little sisters and
brothers and our future."

under the direction of Brother
Benjamin Coleman.
The 30th District Masons
and Stars will host this event
annually in honor of
the"KIDS."
A short devotional service was held at the grand stand in the park.
Children received foody drinks and
free school supplies including book
bags, paper, pencils, and toys.
