WSBC Alumni sponsor Convocation The Alumni Association of Winston-Salem Bible College sponsored its second Alumni Convocation Sunday evening at Friendship Baptist Church. Seal TVndall (class of 1993) was the host pastor. The Convocation is a time of celebration and fellow ship for alumni, students, staff, and friends of Winston-Salem Bible College. The college, established in 1950, has helped train hundreds of ministers and Christian work ers during its history. A recent survey revealed that more than S00 ministers have received instruction at WSBC. The alumni, under the leader ship of Alumni President Robert Hairston (class of 1992) and Pas tor of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church Stuart Virginia, have made a commitment to raise funds for scholarships for current students. The Convocation offer ing of $1,225 was designed for the scholarship program. Larry Spates (class of 1995), vice president of the Alumni Association and pastor of Victori ous Joy of Faith Church, was the program chairman and master of ceremonies. The speaker of the evening, Zavious Pratt (class of 1990), pastor of Second New Bethel Baptist Church, expanded on the theme, "Preach the Word," taken from II Timothy 4:1 and discussed "Heroes From the Bible," concluding with the refrain "Thank You" to WSBC and to our Lord Jesus Christ for all that we have received." Special music was provided by the choirs of both Friendship Baptist Church and Second New Bethel Baptist Church, as well as Robert Galling, (class of 1990), associate pastor of Second New Bethel Baptist Church. Other alumni and former stu dents on the program included Nelson McCall (class of 1968), chairman, WSBC Board of Direc tors and pastor of Baileytown Christian Church, Walnut Cove; Kent Allen (class of 1962), pastor of Westside Christian Church, Lewisville; Barbara Wardlow, assistant pastor, Macedonia TVPH Church; Dereck Mushaya munda (class of 1993), WSBC staff and assistant pastor. Bailey town Christian Church, Walnut Cove; and William Moore (class of 1992), Shouse Temple CME Church. WSBC Academic Dean William Johnson and President W. Ray Kelley provided updates about the college and encourage ment to the Alumni. Kelley announced the col lege's upcoming banquet, which will be held April 18, and an interracial and interdenomina tional "Pulpit Exchange" that the college will sponsor April 20. A spokesperson for the col lege said, "Winston-Salem Bible College has always been proud of its diversity and outreach Its fac ulty and student body have always been racially integrated and have represented most of the denominations in the Piedmont area. The Convocation this year represented this diversity, includ ing both foreign and American citizens of various racial and eth nic backgrounds involved in a common goal of worship and praise of our Lord Jesus Christ." The next WSBC Alumni meeting will be Feb.7 at 7 p.m. on the Winston-Salem Bible Col lege campus, 4117 Northampton Dr. in Winston-Salem. Ellen King Givens will preach her initial sermon Sun day, Feb. 9, at 3 p.m. at Carver Road Christian Church, where she has been a faithful member for 36 years, and has served as secretary to the congregation for 34 years. She is also the orga nizer and directress of the Triplaires Gospel Choir, presi dent of the Women's Fellowship and a Bible school teacher and I 1 leader. She serves in other capacities, including vice presi dent of the London High School Alumni, treasurer for the Tri State Evangelistic Association and youth advisor for both her congregation and the Associa tion. Givens is the daughter of Ellen E. King of Walnut Cove, N.C., and the late Kev. Nathaniel King.
