Deaths and Funerals ? - 3%P OPER Funeral Home MILLER Mr. William Furman Miller, of 11215 Oak Leaf Dr. in Silver Spring, Md., died Feb. 28. He was born June 10, 1933, in Kershaw, S.C., to Mary Moses Miller and Willie K, Miller. He was a graduate of Adkins High School and received his bachelor's degree from North Carolina A&T State University. Mr. Miller served in the United States Air Force. He was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, where he maintained his membership while he was away. Also he was a member of the Phalanx Fraternity and the North Carolina A&T Alumni Association. He is survived by his wife, Thelma Furches Miller, of the home; four sisters, Pauline M. (George) Mitchell, and Annie M. (Harmon Sr.) Carson, both of Winston-Salem, Catherine M. (James) Kerr of Durham, N.C., and Elmena M. (Ronald Sr.) Jean, of East Orange, N.J.; two brothers, James C. Miller, of Winston Salem, and Fredrick K. Miller, of Goldsboro, N.C.; six sisters-in law; seven brothers-in-law, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Funeral services were held March 6, at St. Paul United Methodist Church, with Rev. Donald Jenkins, pastor, officiating. Inhumation followed at Piedmont Memorial Gardens. Hooper Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. a OLIVER Mr. Lucius "LL" Oliver, of 2300 K Court, died March 4, at North Carolina Baptist Hospital. He was born June 11, 1923, in Winston-Salem.Lucius and Laura Oliver. He was a lifelong resident of Cleveland, Ohio, and a retired employee of the Ford Motor Company. He was preceded in death by his wife Gertrude Oliver of Cleveland, Ohio. He leaves to cherish his memory, one sister, Elizabeth Martin, of Cleveland, Ohio; a devoted niece with whom he resided; other nieces, Thelma F. Johnson, Jackie, Robin and Melissa Davis; one nephew, Willis Lee "Sonny" Dolby, all of the city; a devoted great-niece, Deborah D. Davis; a very devoted friend, Wallace (Lib) Prysock, of the city. Funeral services were held March 8 at Open Door Missionary Baptist Church in Cleveland, with the Rev. Benjamin Franklin officiating. E.F. Boyd Funeral Home 15357 Euclid Avenue Cleveland, Ohio was in charge of the arrangements. Hooper Funeral Home was in charge of local arrangements. MILEN Mrs. Sallie M. Milen, of 1217 E. 12th St., passed away Mon day morning at Springwood Care Center. She was born Jan. 12, 1938, in South Carolina, she moved to Winston-Salem at an early age. She is survived by one son, Leroy Miles, of Las Vegas, Nev.; two devoted friends, Nathan Littlejohn and Ruby Burrell, both of Winston-Salem; and a host of loving friends. Funeral services were held March 7 at Hooper Funeral Home, with the Rev. Sheldon McCarter officiating. Inhumation followed at Evergreen Cemetery. Hooper Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. Russell's Funeral Home 822 Carl Russell Ave. 722-3459 COAD Mrs. Myrtle Nellie Banner Coad, of 4107 Rosa St. in Win ston-Salem, died March 3. She was a native of Forsyth County, born Feb. 12, 1932, to Eugene and Thelma Wilkins Banner. She had resided in Brook lyn, N.Y., for a period of time and returned to Winston-Salem 16 years ago. She was a graduate of Carver High School, class of 1949, attended Winston-Salem State University and graduated from the Bird S. Coler School of Nursing in Queens, N.Y., in 1960. She was a member of the Power House of Deliverance in Greensboro, N.C., and was last employed at Knollwood Hall and Tender Care as an LPN and had operated the Geno Drive-in. She is survived by her husband, Don. S. Coad Sr., of Reading, Pa.; three daughters, Sharon Coad, Chiquita Coad and Debra C. (Rodney) Thompson, all of Winston-Salem; six sons, Ronald Perry, Craig Coad, Darrell Coad, Sharp Pitts, all of Winston Salem, Ricky Coad, of Hollywood, Calif., and Don S. Coad Jr., of Bronx, N.Y.; 33 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; one sister, the Rev. Ruth Andrews, of Brooklyn, N.Y.; two brothers, Matthew Banner and Raymond (Debra) Banner, both of Winston-Salem; one uncle, Elmer (Valine) Banner, of Winston-Salem; two aunts, Rebecca (Earl) Martin, of Reading, Pa., and Martha Wilkins, of Washington, D.C.; a devoted cousin. Nelson Petree. of Winston Salem; a dear niece, Janie Jeter, of Winston-Salem; and a host of other nieces, nephews cousins, relatives and many friends. Homegoing services were held March 9 at New Faith Chapel Holiness Church, with Elder Raymond O. Banner Jr. officiating. Burial followed at Piedmont Memorial Gardens. Russell Funeral Directors were in charge of the arrangements. fox : Mr. Everett Vernon Fox, of 11401 South Oakley in Chicago, 111., died March 3 at Saint Francis Hospital in blue Island, 111. He was born June 16, 1915, in Richmond, Va., to Nettie and Charles Vox. Upon completion of the Richmond public school system, he attended Hampton Institute, where he received his bachelor's degree in Business Administration in June 1937. He later earned his master's degree in business administration from the University of Chicago in the 1950s and had earned credits toward a doctorate degree in public administration at New York University. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and was married for 48 years to Laura Kellum, who preceded him in death in December 1990. Everett began his career as an insurance sales* man for Southern Aid Society Insurance Co. in Roanoke, Va. Ill 1952 he accepted a position at Kate Bitting Reynolds Hospital in Winston-Salem, where he became the hospital administrator and served in that capacity until 1965. He relocated to New York City to assume the position of administrator of affiliation contracts for New York University from 1965 to 1974. He was promoted t6 vice president and administrator of New York University Medical Center and held that position from 1974 to 1979. He theft assumed the duties of vice president and administrator of Ned* York University Medical Center until his retirement in December 1984. Mr. Fox was an active member of the Riverside Church ift New York City, where he participated in numerous boards and committees and was forever dedicated to the loving "Family Qf Riverside" Funeral Services were held March 7 at Riverside Church in the city of New York, with Dr. James A. Forbes Jr. officiating. Final services were held March 8 at the chapel of Russell funer al Home, with Dr. Serenus T. Churn Sr. officiating. Burial followed at Evergreen Ceme tery. Russell Funeral Directors were in charge of the arrange ments. Virginia Union Choir to appear tonight at First Baptist on Highland Avenue, sing spirituals, anthems, hymns The 47-voice choir of Vir ginia Union University in Rich mond, Va., will appear in concert March 13 at 7 p.m. at First Bap tist Church on Highland Avenue. The choir, directed by Shelia Tate, has traveled extensively, and has sung before large audi ences in many cities. The choir is noted for its rendition of spiritu als, anthems, hymns and secular music. For more information call 722-5605. ? Choir Anniversary The Spiritual Chorus of the Apostolic Church of Christ, 2044 Martin Luther King Jr. Dr., will celebrate their 29th anniversary March 15 at 7 p.m. and March 16 at 2:30. Topics covered in week ly seminars will include nutri tion, drug therapy, coping with stress and depression, etc. Partic ipants are invited to bring a bag lunch and stay for fellowship and group counseling following the program.
