Hanes Hosiery All-Stars take fifth straight baseball title The Hanes Hosiery 13-16 All ?tars have captured their fifth consecutive City-wide Summer Baseball League championship. That feat is made doubly impres sive when coupled with the fact ^that the All-Stars did not drop a ?jame this season. They went rjindefeated in each of their 'games against the cream of the crop from Miller Park, Rupert Bell, Williams C. Simms, and Martin Luther King. The All-Stars proved their greatness by not only the number -fc,of games they won, but the Xjnanner in which they won them ^s well. The All-Stars dominated ^opponents at each outing. They showcased a commanding pitch ing staff and some bombers in the batters box. The All-Stars featured a lineup of 29 players and because of their dominance were nearly always able to lay the entire roster. The 1997 season has been shortened to accommodate the early commencement of high school football practice and it is a shame that this team could not to continue to show off its bril liance. Lead by the an outstand ing coaching staff of Art Blevins and Eric Gerald the All-Stars were prepared from day one and will try again next year to stretch their title winning tradition to a sixth year. Head coach Art Blevins want ed to extend a thank-you to the sponsor of his five time champi ons, Mock Tire and Progressive Lodge No. 310. When asked who really pow ered this team Blevins stated that the team was powered by all 29 players and that they were all leaders in their own right. The roster included: Trey Veit, Matt Carter, John Hendrix, Ed and David Williams, Quincy Venable, Timmy Beal, David Smith, David Pierce, Scott Pearsons, Brian Bethune, Jason Russell, Richard Lawton, Matthew Owen, Douglas Robertson.
