Duckett from page B / 1 about his fate. That's what some ; said about him when he learned that he had to take dialysis treat ment. It was no surprise to me. I can remember when we were play ing a game at the Boys Club against the Walnut Cove Lions some 25 years ago. A Walnut Cove player deliberately stepped on Duckett's neck while he was on the bottom of the pile. It left cleat marks on him. Most players would have said something or done something to retaliate and, in the process, hurt their team's chances. Not Kenny Duckett. He just got up and went back to the huddle. Several plays later, he took a screen pass and went 94 yards for a touchdown. He later added a 96-yard touchdown reception. Kids today could learn much from the example that players like Duckett set. When he found out in the 10th grade that he was a dia betic and would be on medication the rest of his life, Duckett accept ed it and went on with his life He never stopped to complain or ask for pity or sympathy. When he went on to stardom at Wake Forest and in the NFL, he never changed. He always had time for those that knew him. He never did anything to draw any extra attention to himself. He wanted to be treated like everyone else. Aspiring college and profes sional athletes would do well to take a page from the life that Duckett led and apply it to their lives. Don't just talk about goals and dreams, go out and do some thing about them.
