A&T engineering team participats in
racing series at Charlotte Speedway

A team of seven mechanical
engineering students ^t North
Carolina A&T State Univ.
Recently took part in the second
National Collegiate Association
for Racing exhibition race at
Charlotte Motor Speedway.
NCAR is a new intercolle
giate auto racing series by col
leges of engineering that couples
?sports with academics. A&T was
among 25 schools invited by
Charlotte Motor Speedway pres
ident H.A. "Humpy" Wheeler to
a May summit at which NCAR
was conceived.
Five schools - Duke Univ.,
North Carolina State, UNC
Charlotte, the Univ. of South
Carolina, and the Univ. ?f Ten
nessee - participated in the first
exhibition race last July. A&T
and the University of Virginia
were later added.
The teams race Legens cars,
manufactured by 600 Racing.
The company donated a car to
A&T and other schools partici
pating in the exhibition races.
The cars cost $12,000 each.
The A&T team finished sec
ond and fourth during two races
at the exhibition in Charlotte on
March 28. A&T's team was also
scheduled?4o participate in the
third NCAR race at Raleigh's
Wake County Speedway last Fri
day (April 17).
Dr. David E. Klett, an A&T
professor of mechanical engi
neering, is the advisor for the
A&T team.
