Fails will deliver a pre homecoming message at 5 p.m. at gHanes Mertiorial C.M.E. Church. gThe Missing - Man's Choir will ^.accompany Fails and the congre ?gation of First United Baptist ?Church JJ Fails was born in Denver, gColo.. in March 1953. He is the third of five children. The son of a soldier, he was educated in the mil ?Titary post school in Fort Leonard t^ood. Mo.; and the public schools ?of Fort Smith. Ark., and Leesville, 2 La. In 1966 his family moved to - Oklahoma City, Okla., where he graduated from Northeast High ? School in 1972. *' ? In the fall, of 1972. Fails ^entered Lane College in Jackson. 5?Tenn . and received a B.S. degree j?in social welfare/sociology with a *-minot in history in 1976. In 1980 he entered the Interde ? flominational Theological Center ? r> . xi /xm rrt (ITC) in Atlanta, Ga. After study at ITC for two years, he trans ferred to Howard University School of Divin ity. In May 1986 he graduated with a master of divinity degree. Fails was called to preach in 1%8, but did not enter the ministry until late 1969. He R*v. Fail* was licensed to preach in 1969 at Cleaves Memorial C.M.E. Church in Oklahoma City. While an undergrad, he was pastor at Hope Hill C.M.E. Church at Sitka. Tenn.. and Dyer C.M.E. in Dyer, Tenn. Upon grad uating from Lane College, he returned to Oklahoma and was pastor at Chandler C.M.E. Church in Chandler, Okla., and Fallis C.M.E. Church in Fallis, Okla. /M 1 111 While matriculating at ITC, he was pastor of Clifford Temple C.M.E. Church in Thomasville, Ga Fails was then transferred to Washington. D.C. to be pastor of Lane Memorial C.M.E. Church. In 1986 he was assigned to Hanes Memorial C.M.E. Church in Winston-Salem, where he served until 1989. Then he was transferred to Anderson, S.C., to serve as pastor of Mt. Carmel C.M.E. Church. The next move for Fails was in 1990 to Statesville, where he was pastor at Holsey C.M.E. Church. In the summer of . 1991, Fails was called to be the pastor of First United Baptist Church of High Point, where he currently serves. Fails is a member of the Minis ters Conference of Winston-Salem and Vicinity, the Ministers Con ference of High Point, NAACP, Citizens United for Justice, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. and Prince Hall Lodge. He is husband to Janese For 1 tune Fails and father of Herston Raymon, Stephen Nicoaias and Afreecah Simone Fails. On June 12 the congregation at Hanes Memorial C.M.E. Church will host a homecoming outdoor festival. The festival will include games, prizes, food and vendors. Anyone interested in setting up as a vendor should contact the church office (724-7151), 764-2584 or 722-1328. The festival will culminate with an outdoor gospel concert consist ing of choirs from neighboring churches and Hanes Memorial's own H.M.C. Chorale and the Mack Gallman Youth Choir. On June 13, at 10:55 a.ni,, Bishop Charles Lee Helton, pre siding prelate for the Seventh Episcopal District, will deliver the morning sermon. Immediately after morning worship, an old-fashion dinner and fellowship will be held on the church grounds. ? i ? ? m. Frank White, Young Missionary Temple CME, Raleigh. Best was born again in 1967, preached his initial sermon in June 1980 and was ordained elder in 1988. He has been a pastor for 13 years, at four Christian Methodist Episcopal church * * ea. He lives by Romans 1:16, 17: "For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ; for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the I Greek. For therein is the righteousness of God H revealed from faith to faith: as it is.written. The just shall live by faith." Pastor Best and his wife, the former Jacqueline Howard, have two children.
