Jones has been listed in Who's Who in America and has been cited as "The Dean of New York's Great Preachers" by the New York Daily News. He has served as visiting pro fessor at Colgate Rochester Divin ity School, Wesley Theologian Seminary, Princeton Theological Seminary, Union Theological Seminary and United Theological Seminary. His published writings include: "The Black Church Looks at the Bicentennial," "God in the Ghet to," "Responsible Preaching and the African American Church: Past Present and Future." This special day will begin with a men's fellowship and continental breakfast at 8:30 a.m. The speaker will be the pastor of Mount Pleas ant, the Rev. Douglas E. Sum mers. I I JK1H William Augusta* Jones, Jr. Catholic Social Services will V . ;f ^ .... ? dedicate expanded facilities Special to The Chronicle Catholic Social Services will have a dedication and open house of its expanded facilities at 627 W. Second St. in Winston-Salem on Sunday from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Bishop William Curlin will lead the dedication and blessing of the facility from 4:45 to 5:30 p.m. followed by program tours and refreshments from 5:30 to 7 p.m. The new facility is next to the present two buildings that house programs for the Triad area via Hand to Hand, Host Homes, Casa Guadalupe, Adoption Ser vices and Core Services. The new facility was an exist ing home built in 1917. In 1924 a middle story was inserted between '? the ground floor and the existing : ^ - second story. The historic build ing was completely upfitted under the direction of Dick EglofT of Egloff Building Co. Inc. Most of the work was completed by a father and son team (Anton and Martin Bevis) that moved to the Triad area from England. Major construction had to be completed by jacking up and leveling the foundation, new walls, flooring, HVAC and electrical. Numerous companies from the Triad area donated either the time of their personnel, monies or furniture. A series of major capital cam paigns were put together, and more that $300,000 was raised by the Triad community to pay for the building and complete the renovations. Catholic Social Services pro vides services to more than 1,500 \\ J individuals and families in the Triad community, regardless of religious affiliations. -' Bishop Curlin : uoodwill to celebrate 1 loth anniversary ? ^ . Special to The Chronicle Goodwill Baptist Church will , ? celebrate its 118th anniversary Z July 18 at 4 p.m. Donald Salley, Z pastor of Morning Star Baptist ; Church, will speak. Goodwill is one of the oldest ministries in this area and its con ? gregation lives by the words "Running With Vision and Min istering With Excellence." The church has a rich and diverse background, and God has especially poured out his bless ings on the ministry for the last several years. Goodwill recently acquired and paid for 25 acres of land next to its existing location and is in the midst of a capital campaign. The Rev. P.A. Samuels has started several ministries since becoming pastor in 1970. They include: The Daughters of Debo rah, the Mighty Men of Valour, the Joshua Generation, a trans portation ministry, leadership workshops and training seminars. Friday and Saturday evening services will begin promptly at 7:30, with Sun day services at 11 a.m. and 5 p.m.' Services will convene at the church, at 4200 N. Cherry St. on the corner of Brownsboro Road and North Cherry. Evangelist Mike Pomeroy of Winston-Salem will minister at all evening services. He ministers through The Last Days Ministries with outreach ministries on radio, CAT-TV 6 and a local newsletter. His wife, Ella, accompanies him in music ministry and is us6d on occasion to share her testimonies of healing and deliverance. Shepherd's Center accepting donations for rummage and bake sale on Tuesdays Special to The Chronicle The Shepherd's Center of Greater Winston-Salem is accept ing donations of items for its rum mage and bake sale at Westview Baptist Church, 1700 Ebert St., Tuesdays only, from 9 a.m. to noon. In addition, the center will accept items the week before the sale at First Christian Church, 2320 Country Club Rd., Fellowship Hall, Aug. 23-27 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Books, furniture, antiques, tools, jewelry, crafts, household items, small appliances, toys and children's clothing will be accepted. The rummage and bake sale will be on Aug. 28 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at First Christian Church's fellow ship hall, 2320 Country Club Road in Winston-Salem. The public is cordially invited to attend. Proceeds from the rummage and bake sale will support the pro grams and services of The Shep herd's Center of Greater Winston Salem, which is an interfaith min istry that supports and promotes successful aging through education al, service, support and volunteer opportunities for older adults.
