J > Church session to be held in Winston-Salem special to The Chrowkxe ' The Woman's Baptist Home ' and Foreign Missionary Con- ] vention of North Carolina will hold its 11 Sth annual session in ; Winston-Salem July 25-29. The session will be at Benton Con vention Center and Mount Pleasant Missionary Baptist < Church, 795 Northwest Craw ford Place. Pastor Douglas Summers and Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church will be the host pastor ?nd host church. The theme is "The Chal lenge, the Same: Reach the passes" - John 12:32. The sub theme is: "Effective Leadership: Accountability.. .Commit fnent...Dedication" - John 9:4. ( More than 2,500 people from across North Carolina are Expected to attend the session during the four-day period. * Highlights of the session , include: | ? Preconvention musical by Combined choirs of area church es. The musical will be held at Mount Pleasant July 25 at 7 'p.m. i . " ? Preconvention banquet - keynote speaker Dr. Minnie Washington, Lott Carey Woman's Auxiliary. Maggie White is president. Woman's Baptist Home and Foreign Con vention. The event will be held at Benton Convention Center July 26 at 6 p.m. ? Worship service - Dr. J.C. Harris, pastor. First Baptist Church, Statesville, will preach. The service will be held ;at Ben ton Covention Center July 27 at 7 p.m. ? Foreign Missions Night - The Rev. Fredrick A. Davis, pas tor of First Calvary Church of Durham, will deliver the mes sage. The event will be held at Benton Convention Center July 28 at 7 p.m. ? Mission study classes (annual session) have been planned. The plans involve more T than ong class for seniors. Regis tration for the classes will be assigned by color codes. The registration fee does not include the cost of the book. ? Young adults will have one class as usual. The youths will be graded* Youth projects wiH be held July 27: "Supervisors and Youth Officers' March" and "Have a Heart for Missions" projects during the period of 10:35-noon. "The "Shaw" pro ject will begin at 1 p.m. ? The early morning prayer hour will be 6 to 7 a.m. Tuesday through Thursday. The young adult missions prayer breakfast will be at 6:45 on Tuesday. ? Youth prayer pizza party will be at 6 p.m. Wednesday. ? On Wednesday morning, president White will give her annual address along with the report of executive secretary treasurer Bodie. ? On Tuesday at 12:30 the ministers' wives/widows fellow ship luncheon will be held at Adam's Mark Hotel. ? The executive board will meet July 26 at 10 a.m., and the gerieral board will met July 26 at 1:45 p.m. ? The preconvention musical and all worship services are open to the public. The* parent body. Henry Martin Tupper, the irst president of Shaw Universi y. The women felt that they ould render a more effective ervice by bringing together videly scattered missionary ocieties under one banner. The purpose of the conven ion is to organize and improve nissionary circles and senior, roung adult and youth depart nents in Baptist churches of ?Jorth Carolina to promote a >roader spirit of missionary rndeavor, to encourage the study >f the Bible, to awaken a greater nterest in missionary work, to support missionaries on the state and foreign fields, to sup port Christian education and to :ooperate with the General Bap ist State Convention. The ministry of missions refers to the same ministry of missions as that of the parent tipdy, in relation to individual :hurches. Consequently, it relates to the functions of proclamation, teaching, wor ship, fellowship, witness and ser vice. ? As part of the expression of this ministry are the following meetings and programs: leader ? " ? ship training conference, mis sionary institutes, youth Bible camp, statewide leaders work shop, annual convention, one day session, family missions conference, young adult retreat, ministers' wives retreat and youth evangelism conference. "i- ;!> The membership consists of local missionary circles of the GBSC churches, women's auxil iaries of associates, county or city unions and district confer ences. For this membership the convention seeks to provide study, information, publications, programs and services pertain ing to missions. The convention is affiliated with the following Christian' organizations that relate to and implement the mission of Jesus Christ through missions: the women's department of the Bap tist World Alliance., Church Women lJnited, Women's Auxil iary of the Lott Carey Baptist Foreign Mission Convention. Trade Street, will cele brate Women's Day July 25 at 11 i}n. The theme is "Women, commit thy works unto the Lord and thy thoughts shall be established." The guest speaker will be the Rev. Shirley Williams Hines. Hines is the daughter of the Rev. H.S. Williams and the Rev. Lula Williams. She is the grand daughter of Lawrence D. Williams of Winston-Salem. Hines is a graduate of N.C. Central University. She is employed by Winston Salem/Forsyth County Schools at Hahes Middle School. She is past ' ? - ^ president of the Johnson County NAACP, Past Worthy Matron of Order of Eastern Star - Chapter 134 Silverdale Court. She is a member of Daughters of Isis, the National Association of University Women and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. She has preached for 30 years. She has been a pastor in the North Carolina Conference and the Western North Carolina Confer ence for more than 15 years. She is a product of Union Bethel AME Church. Music will be provided by the Inspirational Choir, under the direction of James Anderson. " The Rev. William Propst is the pastor. Everyone is invited. Rev. Those who attended were: Dora Martin (president), Fannie Bonham, Annie Lewis, Mattie Walker, Ethel Thomas, Shirley Wright, Susana Jenkins, Cynthia Wooten, Hattie Fulwood, Jessie Hodges and Pauline Moore.' The state chairperson, Doris Blackwell, will meet with the ministers' wives July 24 at 9 at Gohden Corral , University Parkway (8:30 for breakfast). All members are encouraged to attend. Evangelist Janice Payton, general manager of radio station WTNC of Thomasville, will be |ihe Sunday morning speaker jjuly 25 at United Progressive ?Baptist Church, 1122 Quincey ii : Caldwell Circle in Winston Salem. Evangelist Payton, - of the Eternal Truth Ministries, was licensed' into the ministry on June 29, 1992, by Pastor D.H. Dockery of Shiloh Rock Baptist Church in High Point. On May 16, 1993, Bishop Kelly Purvis ordained her as eldress of the Messiah Valley Church of Divine Wisdom. She and her husband oversee the Ministry of Eternal Truth.
