He was a native of Winston-Salem, born on May 9, 1965, to
Leroy and Fosteen Hamlin Benton. He attended( Winston
Salem/Forsyth County Schools and was a graduate of A&T State
University with a B.S. degree in engineering. .
He was a member of the Macedonia TVPH Church of God Inc. 1
and later joined New Birth Church of Christ. He was formerly
employed witfi U.S. Airways and was a licensed real estate agent
with Century 21.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Moses Hamlin,
Jessie and Leroy Benton Sr.
He is survived by his parents, Fosteen and Leroy Benton Jr. of
the home; his sister, Valerie (Michaelj Benton-Smith; his maternal
grandmother, Sarah Hamlin; niece and nephew, Asante Benton and
Xavier Farmer; a host of uncles, aunts, cousins, other relatives and
friends.
The funeral was held Aug. 9 at 1 p.m. at Macedonia TVPH
Church of God Inc. with Apostle S.D. Johnson and Pastor Victor
Dete Davidson II officiating. Burial followed at Evergreen Cemetery.
Russell Funeral Home directors were in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Elmore Peoples Sr., 1555 Bryden Road, Columbus, Ohio,
formerly of 2230 E. 23rd Street in the Bowen Park community of
Winston-Salem. died Aug. 5 at Ohio State University East Elospital
in> Columbus. s
He was a native of Winston-Salem, born on Feb. J, 1925, ^nd
had lived here until March 1997 when he relocated to Columbus. He
was a member of Antioch Baptist Church where he diligently served
as a trustee. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served dur
ing World War 11. _
During his lifetime he held employment at R.J. Reynolds Tobao
co Industries. McLean Trucking Co. and in his own janitorial and
radio repair trades. He retired from the Winston-Salem/Forsyth
County;,School System as a building custodian.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Beulah Scippio Peoples, in
1980; his mother. Essie; his brother, Charlie; and his'sisters, Willie
Mae and Thelma, his twin. ? .. .. <
He is survived by his children, Shelba McKenzie of Bronx, N.Y., _
Marilyn Mitchell of Winston-Salem, Wilma Faye Calloway (Lacey)
of Cincinnati. Ohio. Elmore Jr. of Manassas, Va., Dr, Vickie
Yvonne McCreary (Rev. Robert) of Columbus, Ohio, Mark Brian of
Winston:Salem, and Kevin Douglass (Vonne) of Manassas, Va.; 15
loving grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; local nieces and
nephew. Ms. Betty Carjjuthers, Mrs. Gwendolyn Peoples and Rev.
Richard Rose; a host of other relatives, neighbors, church brothers
and sisters and friends. . - !
The funeral, was held Aug. 11 at 1 p.m. at Antioch Baptist
JChurch with the Rev. J. L. Montgomery officiating. Burial followed
at Evergreen Cemetery. Russell Funeral Home directors were in
charge of the arrangements. * t
PORTER
Mrs. Kathleen Dotson Porter, 4055 Shamel Street, Winston
Salem, died Aug. 5 at the home of a daughter, Jessie Dobson Draft.
She was a native of Union S.C., born on March 24, 1920. She
was of the Baptist faith and a dedicated worker at Bell Brothers
Cafeteria with more than 30 years of service.
She is survived by three daughters, Francina Covington and
Jessie Dobson Draft of Winston-Salem, Patricia Porter (Vincent)
Jack of Fort Washington, Md.; eight grandchildren, Pamela Cov
ington, Michael Covington, Rene Conrad, Emanuel (Debra) Con
rad and Sabring (Tony) Jacobs of Winston-Salem, Warrenetta (Dar
ryl) Burks, of Atlanta, Ga., Vincent Jack Jr. and Tomeka Jack of
White Plains, Md.; 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great
grandchild; many dear family friends.
The funeral was held Aug. 7 at 2 p.m. at the chapel of Russell
Funeral Home with Dr. Paul A. Lowe Jr. officiating. Russell Funer
al Home directors were in charge of the arrangements.
WILLIAMS
Little Enoch Michael Williams, 2919 Emerson Street, Winston
Salem, died Aug. 8 at Wake Forest University/Baptist medical Cen
ter.
He was born on July 31, 1999, in Forsyth County.
He is survived by his parents, Eddie Williams Jr. and Jade Shan
non, both of the home; maternal grandparents, Brinda Shannon
and Perry Mungo; paternal grandparents, Eddie Lee Williams Sr.
and Hazel Louise Williams; other relatives and family friends.
Graveside rites were held Aug. 10 at 11 a.m. at the Gardens of
Angels section of Piedmont Memorial Gardens with the Rev. L.S.
Werts officiating. Russell Funeral Home directors were in charge of
the arrangements.
WILLIAMS
Mr. James Reed Williams, known to family and friends as
"L.D.," 3524 Prospect Drive, Winston-Salem, died Aug. 3 at Wake
Forest University/Baptist Medical Center.
He was a native of Honeapath, S.C., born on Dec. 14, 1910, to
the late John and Nettie Posey Williams. He was a member of
Mount Olive Baptist Church and was a retired employee of R.J.
Reynolds Tobacco Co. with 35VearS\of service.

He is survived by his wife, Ollie B. Williams of the home; one sis
ter, Ruby Sanders of Honeapath, S.C.; five nieces; one nephew;
devoted cousins, Amos and Mattie McClendop of Winston-Salem;
devoted care-giver, Mary Addison, and a dear family friend, John
W. Manning, both of Winston-Salem; other relatives and friends.
The funeral was held Aug. 6 at 2 p.m. at the chapel of Russell
Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles E. Gray officiating. Burial fol
lowed at Evergreen Cemetery. Russell Funeral Home directors were
in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Mary Lee Moser Wilson, 1900 Longview Drive, Winston
Salem, died Aug. 7 at Wake Forest University/Baptist Medical Ceil*
ler.
She was a native and lifelong resident of Winston-Salem, born
on Jan. 4, 1940, tq the late Maggie Moser and Sylvester Saunders.
She attended Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools, was a gradu
ate of Atkins High School (Class of 19S9) and attended Forsyth
Technical College. She was a member of St. Stephen Missionary
Baptist Church where she was a member of the chorale and was a
member of the Voices of Faith Gospel Group.
She was an employee of Budd Services/Sara Lee Corp. for 10
years.
She is survived by her husband, Hubert Wilson of the home; one
son, Edward Hood Sr. of Winston-Salem; one grandson, Edward
Hood Jr. of Winston-Salem; her father, Sylvester Saunders of Win
ston-Salem; five brothers, the Rev. Sylvester (Allie) Moser Sr.,
James Edward Moser, Donald Ray (Althelia) Moser, Norman Lee
Moser, all of Winston-Salem, and Billy Ray (Maijorie) Moser of
California; a devoted cousin, Carlette Ewell of Winston-Salem;
dear friends, Helenia Jackson, Louise Gant; a host of nieces,
nephews, other relatives and friends.
The funeral was held Aug. 10 at 4 p.m. at St. Stephen Mission
ary Baptist Church with the Rev. Joseph R. Samuels officiating.

Mr. Daniel Barr, 77, of 440 Buick Street, was called from his labor to
rest Aug. 6 at J. Paul Sticht Rehabilitation Center.
He was a native of Dillon, S.C., born June 8, 1922, and raised in
Chadbourn, N.C. His parents, Abbie and Nancy Barr; one sister, Louel
la Dewitt; and one son, Jesse McCullen, preceded him in death. He was
retired from the city of Winston-Salem and a member of First Baptist
Church, where he served on the Usher Board for many years. He was a
member of James H. Young Lodge No. 670.
He leaves to cherish hj? loving memories his devoted wife of 25 years,
Virginia C. Barr; three sons, Donald McCullen, Danny (Deborah)
Mock, and Michael McCullen; and one grandson who was like a son,
Anthony (Jackie) McCullen, all of the city; six daughters, Sallif
(Richard) Threadgill of Brooklyn, N.Y., Mattie Blakney, Betsy Torrenco,
Phyllis McCullen, Mary (Charles) Payne and Olivia (Roderick) Allen, alj|
of the city; one niece who was like a daughter, Irene (Willie) Swalton of
Chadbourn, N.C.; one sister, Flora Stevenson of Chadbourn; one broths
