Tiny Vikings capture two wins in homecoming battles against Falcons W The Winston-Salem Vikings cele brated homecoming last weekend at Mineral Springs School, when they played host to the Falcons. The Vikings started the day off strong, taking a 14-0 win over the Fal cons' flags. Flowever, the Falcons' Mighty Mites took a 14-7 victory. The Vikings got their Final win of the day in the Jr. Pee Wee game, when they took a 6-0 win to hand the Falcons their first J defeat. The Vikings didn't crown a king or queen this year. Rather, the Vikings football players presented each cheer leader with a rose. Fans in attendance were also treated to a performance by the Marching 100, which was the orga nization's special guests. Renee Pugh headed the homecom ing committee. Others who worked with her included Sonja McCorkle and Shari Miles, who said they would Ike the thank the community for coming out and helping make the everrt a success. Cuthbertson leads the way as Fal cons Midgets defeat Vikings 29-0 Tim Cuthbertson provided the spark on both sides of the football as the Falcons rolled to a 29-0 win over the Vikings. Cuthbertson passed for a 15-yard touchdown to Rashaun Edmonds and led the defensive effort with eight tack les, three assists and two pass deflec tions Clevester Payne got the Falcons started with a 68-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. Harold Bennett added a 3-yard run before Edmonds hauled in a Cuthbertson throw for the third Falcon touchdown. Taurean Holland added to the score when he scampered 44 yards on a fum ble recovery for a touchdown. Damario Stover added three extra points for the , Falcons and Antonio Cook closed out the scoring with a sack of the Vikings' quarterback for a safety. Coach Albert Wright said his team's defensive intensity keyed the win. "Overall, my team played well after last week's performance," Wright said. "Now I know our kids are ready to get better on defense. "Offensively, I was glad to see coach Tim Bess get the offense going, and the offensive line blocked well. Still, we have lots of injuries to heal over the next few week's. Our prayers go out to Taurean Holland, who broke his left ankle and had to be operated on. I'm glad to see he's OK. but he will be missed on the offensive and defensive lines." Wright pointed to the play of Cook, Jeremy Acker, Corey McCann, Mario Moses, James Williams and Keith Carter. Click leads Falcons' Pee Wees past Vikings, I'M) Darryl Click scored on two touch down runs and William Tatum added another on a pass reception as the Fal cons spoiled the Vikings' homecoming. The Falcons' defense set the tone early and never allowed the Vikings to reach the end zone. Coach Derrick Byers said his team took a personal approach to the game "The victory was important to me and the team," he said. "This a cross town rivalry." New defensive standouts emerged for the Falcons in the battle They were led by Billy Harrell, Adam Dams and James Summers, who put pressure on the Vikings with blocked passes and sacks. Falcons' Mighty Mites score in final minute to take 14-7 win over Vikings Lamar Edmonds 'scored the game winning touchdown with one minute remaining to pace the Falcons' Mighty Mites to victory. Lamont Arlington scored the first touchdown for the Falcons against his former team, and Edmonds came through with the deciding score. Rashawn Brown and Traquan Mason made the difference for the Falcons' defense. Coach Leon Woods of the Falcons said his team had the upper hand in a defensive game. "This was an old-fashioned defen sive battle, but my guys showed a lot of heart and pride in winning the game," Woods said. "They didn't give up when the Vikings tied the game in the third quarter. My coaches and I are very proud of them." Indians' Mights Mites defeat Pack ers 27-6 The Tiny Indians helped their fans get into the chant of "Indian Pride" "with a 27-6 win over the Pfafftown Packers' Mighty Mites at Ray Agnew Field last Saturday. Leonard Green got the Indians on the scoreboard first when he scored a 45-yard touchdown in the second quar ter. Depatrick Amos scored on a 70 yard run in the third quarter and added a 40-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter. John Fowler rounded out the scoring with a 50-yard touchdown run.
