Shiloh Baptist to host women's workshop SPECIAL TO THE CHRONICLE Shiloh Baptist Church's annual women's workshop leading up to Women's Day will be held Friday, Nov. 12, from 6-8 p.m. and Satur day, Nov. 13, 9 a.m. until noon. Lunch will be served at noon. The theme for the workshop is "Christian Women Preparing for Y2K." The following topics will be discussed: "Health," "Finance," "Religion," "Emergen cies." Mrs. Cheryle Renee-Chap man Hanna, currently residing in Delaware and a student at Prince ton Divinity School, will be the leader of this workshop. She is the granddaughter of Mrs. Rosie L. Feemster and the late Mrs. Annie M. Chapman. The auctioning of baskets will be held Saturday, Nov. 13, from 12:30 p.m.-2 p.m. All women of Shiloh are asked to attend. The entire membership is asked to attend the auctioning. Cheryle Renee-Chapman Hanna has been married to Michael C. Hanna for 18 years and has four children: Natalie, 16 years old; Michael, 14 years old; Adese, 11 years old; William, 9 years old. A member of Pilgrim Baptist Church of Newark, Del., she has been a deaconess since 1994 and a church school teacher cinrv 1081 rhprvlp akn u/nrtpH a Chaplain Extern at Grace Hos pital in Detroit for several years. After graduation from Ketter ing University with a B.S. degree in mechanical engineering, Cheryle was employed by General Motors Corp. as a project engi T"\ ' X 1 neer, plant engineer and manufactur ing supervi sor. The call of God in her life led her to leave industry and pursue full time min istry. Cheryle Hanna is currently enrolled in the master of divinity program at Princeton Theological Seminary in her sec ond year of study. Mrs. Hanna has presented dea coness training in Detroit, Mich., Wilmington and Newark, Del., and has been a workshop presen ter for missionary, youth ministry and church leadership confer ences. The annual Women's Day Cel ebration will be held Sunday, Nov. 14. Rev. Annie Dalton, associate minister of Emmanuel Baptist Church, will be the guest minister for the 8:15 a.m. service and the 11 a.m. service. All women are asked to make a special contribution. Rev. Annie H. Dalton is a native of Lexinjgton, N.C. Her parents are Ms. Pearl Hairston and Mr. Baxter Hoover of Lexing ton. She attended the Lexington City Schools and graduated from rv.?k.,, d,? tv,i? L/uuuai 111511 Jvuuwi. i\v.v. ivauuii furthered her education at Kate Bitting Nursing School and Win ston-Salem State University. In addition, she completed the clini cal pastoral education internship at the Wake Forest Baptist Hospi tal Department of Pastoral Care. 1 Rev. Dalton is currently , enrolled in the Shaw University I CAPE Pro- 1 gram in High Point, where she is major- | ing in sociol- | ogy Rev. Dal Long ton was baptized at an early age and was a member of Files Chapel Baptist Church in Lexington under the leadership of Rev. F-D Betts. She joined Emmanuel Bap tist Church on Oct. 3, 1975. Rev. Dalton has been active in the church for many years. Some of her past positions and activities included Sunday school .teacher, Sunday school superintendent and program chairperson. She has been a vacation Bible school teacher and president of the EBC Chorale Choir as well as chaplain of the Choir and the Missionary Department. Rev. Dalton has served as chair of the Church Anniversary Committee. She has been a dele gate to the Congress of Christian Education, the Progressive National Baptist Convention and the Overseas Mission Training Center in Vintner, N.J. Rev. Dal ton is a licensed associate minister at Emmanuel Baptist Church. The Rowan Bap tist Associa tion, at the General Kmv. Dahon Baptist State Convention in July 1998, ordained her. Rev. Dalton retired in April 1998 after working 30 years at Bell South Telephone Co. During those years she held positions as directory assistance operator, ser vice representative and in the col lections and sales department. Currently she is a substitute ? teacher in the Winston Salem/Forsyth County School System. Rev. Dalton is active in com munity service. She has participat ed as a past volunteer spiritual care giver and volunteer chaplain for Hospice of Winston-Salem and Forsyth County. Rev. Dalton is married to James William Dalton and has four adult children and four grandchildren. Mrs. Wilhelmenia L. Long is leader of women 1999. Lizzie Settles honored: The first Women's Day at Union Baptist Church eras observed in 1949. The lata tveynalle McDaniol, the wife of the lata Kev. A. H. McDaniol, organised the program. The congregation of Union Baptist observed the 50th annual Women's Day celebration on Sunday, Nov. 7. Lissie Settles, the only surviving member of the 1949 Women's Day Committee, received honor as one of the founding contributors to this tradition. Settles also served as one of the past chairpersons of the event. The guest evangelist for the week will be the Rev. Dr. Bennett W. Smith Sr., pastor of St. John Baptist Church of Buf falo, N.Y. Dr. Smith is a celebrated evangelist who is known world wide for his powerful preaching across Africa, Europe and the Caribbean islands. Dr. Smith has also served as past president of the Progressive National Baptist Convention (1994-1998). He presently pastors a 2,700-mem ber congregation in Buffalo, N.Y.
