He lived in South Carolina in his early years and moved to Winston-Salem during his teen-age years. He was employed for years in several positions as chauffeur, taxi driver, house painter and was owner of two gas stations. He owned "Harry's Motors" for more than 50 years. She worshipped at Berean Baptist Church while in Philadelphia. Upon returning to Winston-Salem, she jpined Ephesus Seventh Day Adventist Church, where she was a faithful member until her health declined. She is survived by: her loving mother. She moved to Alton, III., with her par ents at a very young age. Mrs. Swopes was a seamstress by profes sion. She was married to Walter Swopes, who preceded her in death in 1983. Stewart and Elmer Stewart; and three sisters, Lillie Perry, Harriett Jackson and Addie Mae Hutchinson. .
