Inspirational Voices to perform at Calvary Hill Feb. 24
SPECIAL TO THE CHRONICLE
On Sunday, Feb. 24, at 4
p.m., the Inspirational Voices
of Winston-Salem State Uni
versity will perform a concert
at Calvary Hill Church of
Greater Deliverance as part of
the church's black history cel
ebration.
I Established in the 1970s
under the leadership of Rev.
W.H. Hammonds, the Inspira
tional Voices of Winstoft
Salem State University was
then known as the Interde
nominalional Youth Fellow
ship Choir. This choir was
ordained by God to provide
spiritually enlightened music
to reach the hearts of people
through its campus ministry,
the International Youth Fel
lowship.
In 1993 the numbers
increased and the name was
changed to Winston-Salem
State University Gospel Choir.
Recognized as a campus
organization during the 1997
98 school term, the choir has
sung praises at more than 40
engagements and traveled
more than 2,000 miles to
Florida, Georgia, Ohio, New
Jersey, New York, Washing
ton. D.C., and Virginia in con
centrated efforts to minister to
the hearts of others. Blessings
poured out in abundance as
the choir opened up for gospel
recprding artist John P. Kee
during the 1999 homecoming
celebration and subsequently
performed with Kee iji Char
lotte at1 the first "Partakers"
service.
Nominated for a music
award from a local and well
known awards program, the
choir was notably recognized
for participating in the first
"Help Us Help AIDS" benefit,
further proof that the choir is
laboring for the cause of
Christ through giving back to
the community. The choir
became known as Inspira
tional Voices of WSSU in
1998 and continues to praise
the Lord Jesus Christ through
song. The choir is under the
direction of Minister Kevin
Scott and Minster Rodney
Coleman.
The church is at 4951
Manning Street. The pastor is
Bishop Claude C. Turner. For
more information, call 721
