He later moved to Winston-Salem, where he resided with his w ife for 47 years, Frances J. Steward. From this union, daughters Donna and Ivy were born. "Big A" was a gentle man of strength. He was a proud, dedicated, hard-working man who made friends easily and judged people only by their hearts. He enjoyed singing, baseball, basketball and boxing. He had a passion for the outdoors and enjoyed yard work. He was a retired filter operator from R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. with 28.5 years of service. He was a member of Goler Metropolitan AME Zion Church and enjoyed his membership with the Gospel Choir and Men's Fellowship Group. He also enjoyed worshipping with New Bethel. A native of Caswell County, she was a daughter of the late Waltei and Sarah (Sally) Combs Apple and was bom Oct. 22.1903. She lived in the Reidsville area in her early years and married Howard L. Barham. who later became a minister. As the wife of a minister, she also lived in Mount Airy and Salisbury. N.C.. and Chester S.C., sup porting her husband in carrying out the Lord's work. She was a faith ful member of Ardmore Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school and was a member of the Women's Missionary Union. She was a kind and compassionate person, whose positive and loving spirit was an inspiration to many people. After her husband. Rev. Barham died, she moved to Winston-Salem in 1958 and began working at the N.C. Baptist Home. She married Olin Hauser. who died in 1971. After retir ing from the Baptist Home, she continued to work as a home health assistant as long as her health permitted. in addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by: her son. Howard L. Barham Jr.; her daughter. Elizabeth Barham Martin Foster; her son-in-law. William Foster Jr.; an infant grandson. Howard L. Barham III; and infant great-grandson.
